You guys were both right! I'm totally hooked. At first the 39 pages were pretty intimidating, now I am so excited I have that many pages to read, haha.

"'Some day' has arrived," was all he told her.

Her only response was her lips slowly curling up into a smile.

Meantime, in Breagadoir's household, the newest additions were having some time together.
"You may be Breagadoir's heir," Dahlia told her only son, "but you're still my son too.  Maybe some day we'll both be able to go to his mystical land as his queen and his prince.  We just need to stick together, okay baby?"

"Bree-door," was the potential heir's only reply.

In the not-so-distant past...
Some time before Annalove's emotional explosion, Breagadoir had a chat with a young vampire.

"Are you here to mock me like your little protégé?" she asked.
"No, not at all," answered the sly prince.  "In fact, I think you and I might very well see eye to eye on quite a few things."
"Such as?" asked a non-convinced vampire.
"You were the first person I asked about wealthy families in town," he explained,

"and you were smart enough to send me after other families' fortunes instead.  In fact, I think you'd like to get your hands on the entire VanGould family fortune."
"I'm listening," she said.

"I'll plant the idea with Nightmare," he began, "that making you an orphan by getting rid of your family would be the cruelest thing to do to you."
"And would, instead, give me the entire fortune," she said, completing the thought. "But why would you do this?"
"Oh, I'm not selfless," he laughed, "there's something in it for me too, some day..."

Returning to the present

"Are we going to work through things?" asked Annalove, as Breagadoir walked through the door.
"No," he responded with a smile, "in fact, you're simply going to pack up your things and leave."
"What?!?" she responded.
"Remember signing some joint account paperwork without your name on it?" he asked with a smile.

Her face fell as she said, "You mean.."
"Yep," said the prince, cutting her off, "I own all of this and you and your children are penniless."

"Children?" asked Nightmare.
"Sorry, kid," replied the prince, "it was her one condition."
"Whose one condition?" asked an irate Nightmare.

"The new mistress of this manor," replied a young vampire.

Nooo, I don't want Nightmare to leaavvee. :( Even if I do love a good subversion. I like Emilie, but I know she won't last either.

This was sure the one thing to cheer me up! Lol. I had absolutely NO idea!!

I like Nightmare, though. I don't like this bloodsucker, Emelie.

Very, very good. You had us fooled. I thought Breagadoir was just bopping around town, doing nothing worthwhile. Instead, he's out wheeling and dealing.

Bravo!

Brilliant, Brilliant, Brilliant! Bravo!

I can't yet read Breagadoir's soul as well as I would like, you kept the wheels turning and almost subverted my predictions.

I actually liked Nightmare though  ;D

I also appreciate a good subversion  ;=)  It's hard for any gal pal to last with Breagadoir given that he sets the bar so high (as in:  Harlequin)

Thank you, thank you, thank you.  I'm glad Nightmare had a strong following.  I enjoyed her too, but sometimes Breagadoir just needs to mix things up.

Thanks!  I appreciate your occasional comments and your consistent reading  :=)

I know this opinions will make me unpopular around here, but--I'm glad Annalove and her spawn are gone! Including Nightmare! Welcome, Emelie, wealthy mistress of the Manor!

Oh, there's more intense to come :=)  Poor Nightmare will be missed by her vast legions of fans (though it caught me off guard that she became quite so popular)

Ah, a refreshing different and unique perspective!  I'm glad you're excited to see Emelie here.  She'll be a fun addition.

The Elven Town Jump-The Watcher's Updates
« Reply #162 on: June 07, 2013, 06:39:31 PM »

"I'm not sure whether or not Alainn is any better than you are," said his Watcher, as she started updating him on his siblings' progress.
"mhmm," he muttered, disinterestedly.
"She has started courting a young man named Malcolm Landgraab."

"The son of her Nancy that she seemed to love so very much," she said in near disgust.
"Hmm," he grunted.
"Then," the Watcher continued, "she charms a woman named Victoria,"

"gets her to leave her husband,"

"then becomes her girlfriend only to break up with her the next day!"
"How 'bout that?" he asked, never looking up from his copy of The Goth Legacy.

"In her defense, though," she said, "she has been protecting the town."

"From fires and from zombies."

"And she recently befriended her maid, a woman named Shanna, and had her move in.  They're not romantic, so I don't know what she's up to..." the Watcher said, then waited as if the elven prince would offer insight.  Instead, he turned the page in his book.
"Your brother," began the Watcher again, somewhat emphatically, "went for a walk with his beloved Charmaine."

"He stopped her in front of the restaurant where they'd had their first official date, and he gave her a passionate kiss."
"Oh brother," muttered Breagadoir.

"Then, right in front of the restaurant, they held their own, private ceremony,"

"and exchanged vows and rings,"

"and started their life together."
"What does she do for a living?" Breagadoir asked, snapping her out of her dream-like trance.
"Oh...umm...she's a reporter.  Part of the local paparazzi," she answered.  "Why?"
Breagadoir simply laughed at this news.  Then, he offered, "We need to earn $50,000 and he marries a penniless paparazzo?  It would be nice if he'd at least try in this competition."
And with that, the prince left to do some investigating.
