Default career outfit messed up
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:25:55 PM »
Hi, my sim is a level 10 singer and I've always had 3 career outfits for him.  The default was fine.

As I've been playing university,  for his first 2 degrees he got university grad robes.  Nice.  Once back home, he wore them when he sang.  I thought it was a game thing for the 10 days post grad.  You know, pride and all.  I didn't realize it replaced the singer career default outfit until I wanted him in that outfit.  I used the dresser and found that the default outfit was the grad robe.  This sim has 3 degrees now and when he finished the 3rd degree,  he didn't change at all for the grad ceremony, so when he got home, I checked the dresser and now the grad robes have been replaced by a regular shirt and pants for the default career outfit.

Is there anyway to get either his singer career outfit (preferred) or even the grad robes back?

When you create multiple outfits for a category (I'll use formal wear for an example) it will show up when you ask them to change their clothing.

Say for my Sim's formal wear I chose a slinky, party dress. It's awesome and fits the parties she's going to... but now she's engaged.
So I go into C.A.S. and instead of losing my awesome party dress, I add the new outfit. A wedding gown becomes Formal Wear 2 and the party dress is considered "default" Formal wear.

I didn't realize this trick worked with career outfits, but when the wedding day comes you'll go to the dresser (or click on your Sim) and have them change into Formal Wear 2. Doing this gives it priority, and now it is the default dress which (if you forget to change back into the party dress before going to other formal things) will now show up when your Sim will switch autonomously into Formal Wear (like at parties, the Bistro, etc).

I didn't quite understand this, but it works for Career outfits as well. Just go into your C.A.S. and make the outfit you want them to be in for their Career... and when they get out of C.A.S. click on your sim and "Change Outfit" to "Career 2" which will make that one your default in place of the other one. :) Best of luck and let me know if that didn't work (as that suggests a glitch)!

Hi LivvieLove,  After I closed the game down, I did a backup save after the 3rd university degree.  The problem with the career outfits as apposed to the formals etc. is that the first slot cannot be edited.  So the game changed that default from the singer career to grad robe (because now in the career tab he is unemployed and is a student) but not back to singer when he returned home.  I can't edit or change the grad robe from the first slot.  When the strange outfit showed up, I just shook my head.  (it must be from some other career)
When I started back up, I replaced the existing file and used the new backup file.  I found I only had one career outfit, the singer.  Strange, because I know I've never lost any outfits before of any type.  I fill all the outfit types with 3 each and they are always brought forward.  So I think maybe I had a glitch going on because of the strange outfit that appeared in the default slot or maybe the univer grad outfit.  I don't know.  This game never ceases to stun me.   ???
At first I thought you were telling me something new, but after I read it more carefully, I realized that I knew what you were telling me about your party and wedding dress.  I've done that many times with the career outfits to get the one I want him wearing.  Anytime I have to evict and move him back in, or I use a backup file, he's always in the default career outfit - kinda bland - and I want it changed.  However, I've always had the three outfits to choose from.  It is the first default outfit that was changed to the grad and the strange outfit - and giving me a problem.
Anyway, I took him through for the fourth degree (which took me 3 attempts to finally get it - using the backup file each time).  So for now, the game seems to have sorted itself out, possibly using the new file is not recognizing that he'd been to school.  So I'll leave it as one career outfit slot (since it came up that way) and when he finishes all the degrees, hopefully he'll keep the grad robes and I'll remake his two singer career outfits for the 2 and 3 slots.  Keeping the grad outfit appeals to me.
Thanks for your advice.  I appreciate it.  Your party dress sounds like some dress.  Enjoy.  If I have an outfit that I really like, I take note of it and then I can re-create it.  I'd hate to lose something great.  Sometimes the best outfits are found by just playing around and could be tough to figure out again.

Oh, well I'm sorry about the miscommunication, but when I did mention that career outfits cannot be edited I meant to say that you could create a second one and by selecting that one (from clicking on your Sim to using the dresser and NOT waiting until the career forces you to change clothing) that you made would turn that into the default outfit that your Sim would automatically change into upon going to work.

The graduation outfit might be showing up because when your Sim graduates the game needs a place to put the robes in so your Sim can walk out changed into their "grad robes" I guess they chose the career one.

I was using the party dress and wedding dress as the example to say which dress will become default and the only example I could think of was a wedding dress compared to a party dress! It sounds like your game has taken a few hurdles though so it might just have some glitches you may need to put up with (mine certainly does after University). You can always save your outfit in Create a Sim if it ever gets to be a problem (so you wouldn't need to worry about recoloring and the like). Best of luck to you!
