Thanks everyone! Correct me if I am wrong, though, but I don't think anyone has mentioned or tested whether grandchildren count. Sims are directly related to their grandchildren, so grandchildren appear to meet that requirement.

It needs to be a single generation "parent-child" relationship. They need to appear on the family tree as the person's child. Not neice, nephew, grandchild, sibling...
