No Interaction With Sim

The son of a member of my household, who is in a separate household, recently aged to child. As a toddler, he could be interacted with normally, but following his birthday there are no options to interact with him. The Friendly/Mean/etc. doesn't even show up, and neither do "outside the menu" options like "Read to Sleep."

Does anyone have experience or a solution?

Yes. I tried resetting him, "resetsim *", and clearing the caches with no change.

When you try to click on him, what appears? A pie menu, with greyed out options? Nothing? A message like "xxx is going to work"?

Nothing. You mouse over him, and his name pops up. You click on him--nothing. No grayed out options or anything.

I've had this in my game before.  If I remember correctly the guy was a homeless townie, possibly an NPC (maybe a babysitter).  The game made him a romantic interest via prom to one of my sims and she was never able to dump him because she couldn't interact with him in any way.  Strangely enough he wound up marrying her cousin in a different household, so I could keep testing if anyone could interact with him for the rest of his life (never possible).  This all happened several expansions and patches ago.  Haven't seen it happen since.

I was playing a challenge file so I wasn't able to do much to fix my broken sim. Have you tried switching to the household with him in it to see if there's anything odd about him in other ways?  Can he interact with the original household members?  If you use edit town to put him with the original family, can he interact or does he stay broken?  Does anything change if you evict him/his family to the clipboard and put them back?

It's a challenge file, so there's a limited number of ways that I can (legally) try to fix him. I know for a fact that he's in a townie household, and he was also the target spouse for my 6th generation, so I hope I'll be able to fix him without breaking any rules. I had the same thing with Prom/romantic interest, but she was an NPC who ended up disappearing so I never had to try breaking up with her.
