Chapter 34: Nooboos and Drama
Now that my dad has succeeded and he is now officially the Incarnation of Time once more, he handed the book off to me. I’m sure you’ve already guessed, but I am Clotho Incarnation and I am the Incarnation of Fate, the spinner to be exact. Should things go as they should (they will… I won’t let them go any other way…), then I will be in charge of spinning the thread of life, of deciding when individuals will be born, even whether they can be saved or put to death. It is a big responsibility. As I get more and more requirements out of the way, I have a much better understanding of things around me, of how things fall together. Just as my grandmother grew closer to the Earth as she completed her requirements and as my father became more and more aware of the passing of time, so too am I gaining more of a sense of the true flow of fate.
Of course… I can get easily distracted. It doesn’t take the Incarnation of Fate, though, to understand what THIS could mean… After all, none of MY food would make me sick, so it could really only mean one thing.
After several days of horrible morning sickness, my pregnancy was confirmed. I was ecstatic and wasted no time in telling Eros. He was a little dazed at first, but then he was even more excited than I was, I think. He pulled me into a kiss and hugged me tightly. I snuggled against him, sighing in happiness.
There is some more… good news. Hypnos’s girlfriend, Misti, is also pregnant. I’m so happy for my brother, but… I REALLY don’t like Misti. She’s a very shifty person. I can’t see everything yet, but I just get this sense of… heartache from her. She’s going to hurt my brother, I know it… But he just won’t listen to me. He loves her and he can’t wait to see his son or daughter.
Time moves on, as my Dad has taken to saying, and I just get increasingly bigger. I’m most certainly doing the pregnant waddle all over the place. And my back aches. But Eros is never far and he often surprises me with a wonderful massage when I’m in the most pain. He’s such a great guy. He really is my Prince, my Knight in Shining Armor.
As I get further along, I get a little nervous. So while my mom and I are unwinding and having a friendly game of racing, I casually ask her about childbirth and kids in general. She grinned at me and said, “Well, as you can imagine, childbirth itself feels like you’re being ripped open from the inside… but once you hold your child in your arms for the first time, it doesn’t matter. You’d go through more than that for them.” Then she patted my hand. I felt so much better and then I hugged my mom.
*sigh* Just what I thought… Hypnos hasn’t seen Misti since she told him she was pregnant. The baby was even born; we had to find out about it by reading the newspaper! She didn’t even have the courtesy to call Hypnos! He’s devastated. He tries to hide it, but I can hear his anguish in his voice when he keeps trying to call Misti, asking after her and his son. We don’t even know his name yet…
Hypnos finally was able to track down where ‘That Woman’ is staying (and yes, that is how the family refers to her. We refuse to use her name. There are some of us who have a different name for her, but we won’t go there. It just upsets Hypnos because despite everything, she IS the mother of his child). Oddly enough, she is living with Cassidy Windsong, which is Grandpa Nick’s old roommate. Cassidy took pity on Hypnos because of her relationship with our grandpa and had him come over while Misti was out. Hypnos says his son Cameron is a sweet little burrito.
Mom and Dad, as much as they want to see their grandchild, stay away from that subject and don’t bug Hypnos too much. We’re hoping when the boy gets older, he’ll find his way to our place.
I was in the middle of making some mac and cheese when a pain started in my abdomen. I sucked in a breath, wondering if it was a false contraction; the pregnancy book I read said it could happen in the last few weeks. But as soon as I felt something release within me and there was water running down my leg, I knew it wasn’t that. I was in labor! *sigh* What is it about the male gender that they completely lose their heads? My husband certainly wasn’t any help, nor my father, though at least he didn’t jump around like a loon. Luckily, both my mother and grandmother were there. They helped me to keep calm, to breathe. After several tough hours of labor, my daughter was born. Welcome to the world, Nox Incarnation.
Luckily, my dad and Eros had already taken care of getting together a nursery for our new arrival. Just in time, too! It’s right next to mine and Eros’s room, so it makes it a little easier. I don’t expect to sleep much the next little while… but we’ll see.
My brother immediately goes to cuddle his niece. I can see the pain in his eyes as he holds her. He’s acutely aware of the fact that he doesn’t get to see his own child as much as he should be able to.
Nox is such a good little girl. She loves the swing we got her. And actually, it’s been a Watcher-sent gift, that swing. It keeps Nox happy and content for long periods of time.
Of course, she’s never in her swing for long. Everyone in the house dotes on her and she’s almost constantly in someone or other’s arms. She loves it though. She loves being held. And it quickly becomes a traffic jam; her grandparents especially have to take turns and wait to hold her.
Hypnos got to visit Cameron again and the boy’s a toddler already… He was able to help him learn to walk about during this visit but had to get out of there before Misti came home. How sad is that? That woman…. *grumbles threatening things under breath*
Speaking of Hypnos, my brother is a paramedic now. Part of his job means that he gives free vaccination clinics. Honestly, his work- and Nox- are the only things that keep his mind off of the predicament with his son and the woman who ripped out his heart. At this particular clinic, Cameron came! My nephew (who I haven’t even met yet, mind you…) is a child already! Hypnos was a bit speechless, but soon, father and son were building a snowman together.
Cameron had to go home much too soon for Hypnos’s liking, but a late comer showed up for the clinic… and she took his breath away; he can't help himself as they talk- and yes, flirt- for quite a while. Eventually, he finds himself buying her a bouquet of flowers. Hypnos tells me her name is Star Shue. I’m a little suspicious, but from what I’ve been able to tell, Star is a decent girl. I just don’t want to see my brother get hurt again.
I can’t believe it, but it’s my little girl’s birthday already! Eros let me bring her to the cake… just doesn’t seem possible already!
