Some of the simmers at gamescom have started tweeting info, one thing to note and in fact I found it reassuring in a way was it is still a pre alpha build they are looking at.

So things can still change in certain areas and features can still be added, I wasn't sure how set in stone things were but not quite yet according to some of the tweets. I do envy them slightly getting to actually play about with it now.

On the official sims 4 forum (opened yesterday) at EA there is a whole section about "what do you want to see next" that I assume that means we are encouraged to comment and leave our ideas for what we want included in the finished product.

Link to the forum page I was talking about.

Apparently they did leave out the CASt tool.... As shown on this picture, found on the sims wikia, we get some sort of wheel thing.

That looks like the Pantone color guide my dad has. The amount of customization is dissapointing but feels more realistic, you can't choose any color for a shirt right? They'd better give us lots of clothes to choose from.

Maybe they just haven't implemented it yet. Seeing as they are just in the beginning stages. There will be much to pay if it gets left out. In real life, if you want a shirt, there is more than three options per type.

That's what I was thinking. It would seem painfully silly to go backwards on CAS like that.

God let's hope so. But I doubt it if they already went through the trouble of making that colour wheel. Perhaps if they see the outrage it will cause...maybe then they will change it....*fingers crossed* Or perhaps they're just testing the waters with these images. As they're not talking about it specifically. (Not that I've seen, anyway.)

I think they went backwards with several things. I've seen no patterns whatsoever, so far at least. And the more I look at them, the more I start to dislike the hair. It's a shame, because the cartoony style could grow on me even though I like the realistic sims more. But that hair.... :o

The wheel is probably just a part of the CASt. Like in tattoos and makeup, there's the color swatch you choose from, instead of the makeup with the color applied. It could be the same deal.

If you notice in the image though, the jacket is brown and the top looks light blue to me, but the swatches shown don't include that colour combination, so there has to be a way to put in the colour you want.

I don't mind the style, but I would like more realistic hair, you know, that moves like real hair moves. Oh, and a 'tuck hair behind ear' self-interaction and romantic interaction, maybe a 'twirl hair' self-interaction as well. Of course, they could be used for males with long hair, but it would predominantly be a female thing. Something else that would be great, is a group hug interaction, which includes hugging while holding a baby or toddler. As well as being able to pass a baby or toddler to another mature enough sim, instead of them having to be put down and picked up again by the other person.

I just want to caution everyone to remember that we've only seen one very tiny piece of what's coming.  Really, it was just a look at what the new Sims will look like and the big change to CAS with the new way to make them.  It's way too premature to be worried about anything else.  Electronic Arts will use the next 5 months (at least) to tease us with tiny bits of information at a time.  Personally, I'm very excited about however it will be.  It's my first experience with moving to a new Sims game and I'm enormously curious about how it will be different.

We're going to leave this thread open for now, but if it starts getting repetitive and speculative, we'll lock it up again until the next big announcement comes from EA.

Now, I have a question.  What do you guys mean when you say it looks cartoony?  Do you mean the Sims themselves or the environment around them?  I can't see that it's any more cartoony than Sims 3, which is how it has to be considering what kind of game it is.

This is linked on the Sims 4 thread.  I'm going to merge this one with it.

The art style is cartoony. IMO it looks like recent computer animated TV series by Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network.

Also I am just too nostalgic about sims 3 now - not sure I'm ready to move on. But I felt to same way leaving sims 2 lol :)
I felt the same way when Sims 3 came out after Sims 2 - I didn't like the graphics, and I felt like it was a step backwards. I think it will just take a bit of getting used to.

They shouldn't be allowed to leave out something major like that, if you ask me. And I believe they're advertising more customization, not less so they only have to add to what they already can do in a game. I know I can't go back to clothes you can never wear because they don't match the rest. Or furniture for that matter.
Shouldn't, but in all likelihood could. I've seen this kind of simplification in other games too. But there is always the possibility that they could reintroduce something like this in an expansion pack.

As far as the new CAS goes, I think they've just changed the user interface to make it more like sculpting a sim with the mouse. There are still some sort of sliders in there somewhere, they're just on the sim now. There are more sliders, by the looks of things, so hopefully we'll get more unique sims. I still didn't see a height slider though. And if the sliders aren't diverse enough, someone will make them more diverse.

The art style on the Sims or the scenery?  And how is it more cartoony than Sims 3?  (Also, Forum Rules say no abbreviations.  Please spell it out.)

In my opinion the scenery looks like stylized realism, while the sims are cartoony. If you've ever watched or seen screenshots of Penguins of Madagascar, Star Wars Clone Wars or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2012), you'll know why some people think it's more cartoony than The Sims 3.
