The Sleeping Bag is your Friend at University
« on: May 06, 2013, 01:38:46 AM »
I have just started playing Sims again with University, and am having a great time.

One thing that was giving me fits was getting to the Nichols Business School from the Malan dorms in time for class.  To make my 8pm class I was having to get up at 4:30am.

Sleep seems to be a big issue with trying to go to parties and studies, so I have found being able to sleep anywhere with a sleeping bag between classes really helpful.

This is especially true in my current game where one sim is taking 12 credits and has a MWF classes at 8 and 4.  I get better sleep in the bag than I do taking a nap on a wooden bench.

You can just keep the sleeping bag in your backpack for when you need it.

Hope this helps.

This is indeed a good idea.  But I'm wondering why your Sim has to get up at 4:30 to make an 8:00 class.  My Sims normally leave an hour to an hour and a half before class starts and they're early.  They wake up about an hour earlier to eat breakfast.  So, that makes it a 5:30 wake up time.  Well, that's not much later than yours.  But what is happening that makes that extra hour necessary?

I'm not sure why it's happening, but I've also had sims wake up very early (autonomously) to make it to class, around 4am.  I've also had them leave the dorms to go to class much earlier than necessary (at least two hours).  I'm definitely going to try the sleeping bag trick!

There are 2 seperate issues I am seeing.

1. As has been mentioned numerous times, there are some problems with routing into the rabbit holes at the doors, so I try to get to class early.

2. I am noticing that sometimes my Sims do not want to run to class.  I can have them Jog and this always works, but it negatively effects their Hygiene. This occurs even if I use the Go Here command and change from Automatic to Run.  So if I am staying in Malan Hall, it can take almost 3 hours to walk to Nichols Business School.

Pam, my sims are always scheduled to leave an hour and a half before class begins. My Sim always leaves at 6:30 (on the dot) autonomously to make it to class on time for an 8 am Monday, Wednesday, and Friday class. I have always had to have my Sim get up around 4:30 (or earlier) for optimal timing with best moodlets - including showering and eating. Maybe my Sims are a bit slow, but that routine (and the stairs, stairs always take forever with Sims as my Sim loves the 3rd floor) always has them arriving to class a little early.
They still end up being late though because of the pathing issues into the building, but that's a totally different story.

Either way, I just so happen to have a Sim with that schedule and I think I'm going to use that idea! A cheap sleeping bag to keep them going through the day, how clever! I'm so glad I come to this forum, I never would have come up with some of these ideas!  8)

I always have them wake up at 6:00, eat leftovers or a quick snack, maybe shower, and then they are out of my life for 2 sim-hours.

Another really good thing that helped my sim, let him party and study the night before exams, is the Sleeping Elixr you can make to get full sleep in about 5 hours of more.

Good idea on the sleeping bag.

A few things I've done so far:

1.  Buy the Manse Mini-Fridge for my student's room.  I've done this with 2 counters and included a sink in the second counter for clean up.  Have somewhere to sit and eat as well.  This way, you can get up and quickly get breakfast with a Quick Meal (I like the yogurt option).

2.  If you can afford it, upgrade the bed!  Most of the beds in the dorms are quite low on energy regen.  So upgrading the bed will mean your student will get better rest in a shorter time.

3.  For socializing, make a group meal in the evenings (or order a pizza) and choose the Call Household to Meal option.  For this, it's best if the meal is on a table in the dinning room already.  You could set up a small dinning table in the dinning room for this and just move the plate by clicking and dragging it from the counter to the table and then call the household to the meal.  This also cuts down on the annoying roommates always crying because they're hungry. ;)

4.  Also if you can afford it, upgrade the kitchen equipment to cut down on repairs and increase the quality of the meals so you get hungry less.

5.  Stereos - omg there are tons of them in a lot of the dorms.  Drove me nuts hearing all of them going so I removed most of them in the rooms and have only one stereo in the building and put a few wall mounted speaks in the public areas of the other floors.

6.  Note any 'freebies' laying around in the dorms.  Stereos and laptops can be placed in your inventory so you have exclusive use on them.  The laptop is particularly useful if you find one in your dorm.

Sleeping in class increases the Energy bar like crazy.  Let your sim go to class at the regular time, note when the class actually starts and sleep in class until then.

Sorry for the partial necro, but I just wanted to say the sleeping bag has a low energy regen but if you get one of the WA tents you can use it to camp outside class. The dried food/shower in a can is lso userul for when your sims are in a hurry.
