Neighbors Won't Answer
« on: July 23, 2010, 02:53:07 AM »
This sounds like a new bug to me.  Many times when my Sim goes to visit someone, they won't answer the door.  One place in particular is where his kids live.  When he goes to visit them, he just stands at the door "waiting outside" while everyone in the house just ignores him.  I try ringing the bell many times, but nothing changes.  It's not like this all the time.  I'd say maybe half the time.  Has anyone had this happen or know of a solution?

I've had this happen too, oddly enough, where my male sim's kids lived. There were enough windows that I could see the sims inside moving around, and no one was paying any attention to the poor guy repeatedly ringing the door bell. It's only happened a couple times since then though (sometimes when on vacation, not just the home world). So I chalked it up to the relationship between the two sims not being high enough or that the Sims inside had pressing needs to take care of. It'd make sense to me at least that a Sim who doesn't like your Sim won't answer the door, or that they'll ignore the doorbell if they're really hungry.

I wish I could give some real help on this issue. :(

My Sim's relationship with the mother of the kids is maxed out, but he's got strong dislike for her brother.  I've been having his housemates go with him to ring the doorbell.  That at least gets the door answered and lets him get in where his kids are.  ;D

Glad to know you found a work around! In my sim dad's case, I had to improve his relationship with both mothers before either of them would answer the door. (It was an interesting situation. He tried for a baby with two women who happened to be housemates. And both mothers had triplets! I felt it was his duty to go over there and help them out after that. XD )

That actually seems realistic though. Would anyone in real life go rushing to answer the door when it was someone you couldn't stand on the other side?

I've had this happen few times , I also believe it's about the relationship between the Sim visiting and the Sims living in the visited house , I also sometimes feel it's related to the time you visit , if it's near bedtime for some Sims they probably won't open the door for my Sim , or if they are heading to work soon!

Happened to me last night last night as a matter of fact, in Twinbrook.  It started once I made the mistake of installing the latest Sims 3 updates.

That's why I don't always download patches until there is a patch to fix it, and I make sure I read what is there.

It's really discouraging to have a patch cause more problems... I always download them though, because if something goes wrong and I ask for help on any forum, the first thing I'll be asked is if I'm updated all the way.

That's a good observation, jersygirl, about the time of a visit. Since you can't visit past a certain hour, it would make sense that they wouldn't answer the door if it was getting close to that hour.
