But of course, vampires in the EP is perfectly fine.

Pam I've been reading these posts and doesn't it really come down to how someone plays the game and what people see in it?

I mean it's a benign game but the way you play you can manage things like homicide, greed, irresponsibility, promiscuity, domestic violence and crime.  I imagine there are some parents who already object to the games as is.

Maybe this EP just seems to be a little more over the top to some parents because of the title.

I guess my point is that knowing your kids and how they play is more important than what you think the content of the game is. My bet is that most kids play the way the game is intended.

No. They just said "Oh it's says Late Night, must be a dating expansion, I won't let my kid buy it."
Besides they honestly don't have any right of not letting me purchase it because I worked Long, Boring shifts just to get the game. I'm not going to let anyone or anything set me back. I am determind to get all the expansion packs (I promised myself and i'm going to keep that promise).

Are your parents very religiously strict by any chance? Because that is kind of what it's sounding like to me. That can be very hard to deal with sometimes, especially if they are particularly controlling, because some religious people take certain things much more seriously than other people. Maybe you don't think of the themes and "adult content" in the game the same way they do.

And, unfortunately, comparing/contrasting upcoming EP's with former EP's of a similar content/theme is only natural.  Actually, in a sleep-deprived way, that's what I was trying to hint at.  I have a feeling that Late Night will be exactly like NightLife in the same way that World Adventures was exactly like Bon Voyage.  Similar theme, yes; but completely, completely different game.

Yes, I believe the point of a lot of the EP for each new installment of the Sims is to put back all the features they added in the last game with its EPs, but to do it with a new and updated style and overall better play. We have seen an apartment themed game before, but this will be much more, much bigger, and much better than the last (hopefully). We have seen a travel themed EP before, but nothing quite like WA. We have seen a business themed EP before, but Ambitions brings a whole new life and experience to working in real time! Every time they redo an EP from the previous game they put something new to the table to experiment with and make even more improvements on in the future. Even if this EP isn't as good as the trailers make it look, it still holds a lot of potential for future improvement and better ideas.

Penthouses can be filled with luxury objects such as hot tubs and your Sim’s every whim tended to by their butler.

That's from this article: http://www.thesims3.com/community/news.html?selMonth=7&selYear=2010#-2087617196 And I really hope this means we get butlers, finally. I'll be incredibly happy about that.  ;D

Sounds like we are.  Dang, EA's really going all-out for this expansion pack!

Grungy dives may be a great place to start the evening with cheap juices or darts with your Sim’s friends. However, from there your Sim should travel to an upscale lounge where, assuming they can get in, the bar-goers will be more attractive, the drinks will be better, and the music will push everyone to the dance floor.

So as you can see, there will be plenty of Cheers type bars and little humble "grungy dives". But also plenty of fancy clubs in case you get sick of the blah life and want to upgrade to something more flashy. I'm not sure how long it will take before I finally start to explore the Cheers bars, but I'll probably be obsessed with the celebrity life for quite a while  :D

Catie,

Hey, no biggie and no apology necessary! :)  I didn't even feel that was really a "correction," I just know that EA's official "Press Releases" go through a different department / group than the folks responsible for posting content on the Sims3 site; sometimes they'll say slightly different things, and I didn't think I'd actually seen a press release on Late Night. (usually the "official press releases" are a bit more careful about exactly what they say / how they say it, and wewt! County Fair! hehe)

Compare / Contrast has already been forum'd a bit, but I think Sushi101 typed it best,

I agree Sushi, except I'd qualify all that a lot more. I don't think the Sims3 is "as good as the trailers make it look"; but as long as EA continues to release Expansion packs, as you typed, "it still holds a lot of potential for future improvement and better ideas."  :)

Regarding the game content, to my mind RunAmokSims had some good comments ...

I don't need to imagine it, RunAmokSims, I've folks in my large, extended family who don't think the Sims (and it's assorted flavors) are appropriate for their teens.

I do feel any child that has a parent or guardian who's at least concerned about and interested in what their child is up to / how their child is spending their "play time" is ahead of the "game," big-picture.

But a correction was necessary.  I agree, it wasn't a big deal.  However, accuracy when quoting one's sources is absolutely necessary.  Maybe it's because I'm of the "screenshot-or-it-didn't-happen" generation of Internet users, but I believe that anyone who says anything without quoting sources (as needed, obviously) is just giving their opinion and not fact.  And when talking about something like this, it's very important to stay with fact and not delve off into opinion -- or else pretty soon we'll get those who claim they have a friend of their sibling who works in EA and knows the next EP will have clarinets and dinosaurs; like, for real, you guys.  There's enough excitement built up whenever EA releases a new EP, no matter what it is; you start getting opinions into it, and then you run the danger of over-hyping it, and then when you actually get it you're disappointed because it's nothing like you imagined it.  And you want dinosaurs, dangit!  How dare EA jip you!

I also agree about the parent/guardian comment.  True story: my father, growing up, was a real bad boy.  Alcoholic by the age of 15, he was doing drugs and all kinds of things.  Then, he settled down, got clean, had a family, etc.  However, when it came to me and my sister (but especially me, because I'm so much like him), he was always very strict.  I used to resent it.  Then I realized that he wasn't trying to ruin my life or anything; he simply was concerned about me and my life, and wanted to make sure I didn't make the same mistakes growing up that he did.  His methods were a bit draconian, granted, but he was doing it out of love.  When I realized that, I calmed down and started to try and meet him halfway; when he saw that, he calmed down and was willing to work with me.  Now we have a great relationship.  Moral of the story: it's far better for both parties if you work with your parents instead of working against them and butting heads all the time.

Heya Caitie!   :)

Thanks for your post.

... I'm of the "screenshot-or-it-didn't-happen" generation of Internet users

... and I'm proficient enough with some graphic arts software that even "screenshots" don't necessarily mean it happened! :D

I totally agree, though, about being able to cite sources / whatnot. I just meant (for me) ... the hoopla around and about new Expansion packs (and the community enthusiasm and discussions associated with them) is "no biggie."

I'll see what's in the Expansion pack once I install the Expansion pack. Until then, even "Official Press Releases" just describe "what's currently planned / what we pretty much are sure is working!"

:o It's cool you said Late Night is gonna' have dinosaurs, though! I thought that was gonna' happen in The Sim Medieval!

Hehe, I kid, I kid. :D

Moral of the story: it's far better for both parties if you work with your parents instead of working against them and butting heads all the time.

Totally agreed. That works, in fact, in just about any relationship, with anyone. Butting heads just gives folks headaches!

Again, thanks for your post, was good reading!

Sushi, that's not an appropriate discussion for this Forum.

Right, religion is against the rules. I figured there might be objections to that post, and if so it would be you rather than anyone else in this forum  :)
If there isn't a post about the drugs and alcohol discussion someone isn't going to be happy.

:snip: actually get it you're disappointed because it's nothing like you imagined it.  And you want dinosaurs, dangit!  How dare EA jip you!

Um, you may not know this but 'jip' (however you spell it) is an ethnic slur. Just FYI.

Verb: To take unfairly, to rob. Alternate Spellings: Gyp, Gip, Jyp, basically, that is all it means, is to be unfair or to take from, so all Caitie meant, is "How dare EA rob you".  I don't think anything was meant by it.

I think you're getting it confused with another, admittedly similar, word.

That's exactly what I meant.  I just didn't know how to spell it; and, as spell-check had nothing for me (and I was late for work as-is), I just said "forget it, close enough" and called it a day.  Thanks, Saltypaws!
