I went to the graveyard to spend more time mourning my Jennie when I got a surprise

She was back

at least, her ghost was back.

I told her of my plan, my goal to bring her back:  the power of science and magic.

I stayed with her until the sun's rays drove her spirit away.  With my renewed vigor (and the money I'd saved from working for the Landgraabs plus selling off rocks and metals I'd gathered), I built a modest place to live.

It was built on top of my old estate...

and I managed to excavate and re-establish my lab

and I went to work.

Oh! I can see the basement that I looking for! Awesome!

So, what will happen next? I hope that he can bring her back again to a mortal's realm.

Nice update! That was a funny reference to the 'son who went missing'... Too bad she didn't realize she was talking to him!

Is he hoping to find the Philosopher's Stone? If so, you need to add the Fairy Arboretum to Sunset Valley (I learned that from Deme.).

Yeah, I enjoyed that ironic timey-whimey moment.

My only breaks from my research were to go to work, and occasionally, to go to the Bunch household.

Lisa continued to grow into the role of my trusted confidant as we continued to chat about the "ancient art" of alchemy

and the Elixir of Life.  Eventually, I decided I trusted her enough to share the truth of my situation.  It was driving me crazy and I had to tell someone.  To my surprise, she believed me!  She even showed a deeper understanding by expressing the idea of time travel as being like an image in a mirror.

She could exist in one place, have a gap in between, and resume in a completely different space.  I was overjoyed to have such a good friend.  "I'm so happy I could dance," I exclaimed.  "I never learned how," she replied sheepishly.

So that night, I taught young Lisa something other than alchemy...

though she was far better at alchemy.

Is Lisa a vampire because her colouring is almost ghostly?

I just wonder why Lisa skin colour is a bit different. It's like a bit pale just like what I saw in first chapter. I am missing something here?

You both noticed correctly, Lisa went vampire.  However, I was already in the midst of story when it happened.  That first night he went over, when it was dark, she was still a human.  When he visited later, she had become shockingly pale.  The spin doctor in me says that she has that pale complexion because she spends all of her time in a lab or library and doesn't get enough sun.

Of course, I still found time to visit Jennie.

I'm not sure how she felt about my having a young female as my apprentice,

but I would readily defend young Lisa's capabilities.  In fact, she managed to get our work significantly farther along.

She called me over one day while studying an old text.

It seems she had stumbled upon some old notes from Chester Landgraab:  he had found the secret for the Elixir of Life!  All we had to do was sort through his codes...which proved highly challenging.

We had dinner at Lisa's that night and she surprised me.

"To celebrate our discovery," she said while handing me the new coat she'd bought me.

I was so happy!

You should turn off Supernatural Story Progression if you want to keep her human looks. But, something unexpected though story progression can make us surprised and bring out our creativity. That is good, so that's why you can explain with "the spin doctor" thing right :) ?

Aha... I just love where this story will lead to.

Good luck and please be careful... I sense danger coming :P (if the author decide to make that route)

The next day when I arrived home from work, I saw a familiar character sneaking off.

What was Xander up to?  Why had he been sneaking around my house?  I followed him

only to discover that he was headed to Landgraab Institutes.  He entered easily as he seemed to have an ID badge and an access code.  He must have been hired on as the new janitor.  I must be in far too suspicious of a mindset.  Probably just my fatigue and stress from working so hard.

I returned home to find Lisa had shown up while I was out and was already hard at work.  She'd even rearranged our notes and texts in what I supposed was an effort to take a fresh look at things.

We worked late into the night,

but still hadn't unlocked the secrets of Chester's code.
Having pulled an all nighter, I was delighted when Lisa suggested stepping out to get us some coffees.

There is definitely more to Xander than meets the eye...and more to Lisa as well. I have my suspicions but I won't say anything in case they might be right. :P

Arrgghh! Pippin, you just make me more and more curious about what is Xander's up to :P

I agree with Raia. I believe that Xander and Lisa will have more role in the future update.

When I heard the door open, I expected it was Lisa returning with the coffees she'd gone to buy.

I was wrong.
Instead of my apprentice, I saw Xander Clavell
"You still have no idea who I am, do you, old boy?" he said.  "Even after following me to the family's lab the other night?"

All at once, realization washed over me.

"Chester Landgraab!  Your notes...you discovered the elixir of life...that explains how you're here now!"

"Yes, indeed.  Your time machine brought you here on the fast track, but I managed to make sure you couldn't use it twice."
"What?!?  You sabotaged my time machine?!"
"Indeed, when you didn't accept my offer to join me in my pursuit of alchemy, I decided to help myself to your lab and I made a few alterations for you.  But conveniently, you showed up to find my old notes which I'd somehow misplaced.  A few snapshots with my phone and I had all I needed to replicate my elixir.  You see, it only lasts for a few decades, and I'd run out.  I appreciate you finding my notes," he said with a wicked smile. "Aren't you just such the knight in shining armor and a hero?"

"But I'm afraid it won't be bringing your beloved back from the grave.  It only works on the living.  Seems I've stolen time from you yet again," he said, dangling my own pocket watch in front of me.  He left, laughing at my pain.
