That was a nice scenery in first picture, Pippin. I believe that he can find it to save Jennie! :D
What happened anyway? Why it is buried? Are you will tell them in the next installment? I am kinda curious! XD

Oh and I never mentioned this. But, his hair is kinda unique and awesome.

His lab would have been in the basement of his old home, so it would be buried now after the flood that decimated his home and drowned his poor Jennie.

Strangely, I had found a workbench much like my own at the fire station where Officer Keaton had taken me.  As she recognized my talent at science,

she helped me get a job with a science lab.  Ironically, it was Landgraab Institute.  I was finally forced to choose a side.
I continued to visit the graveyard to mourn my lost love.

I even slept there, more times than I'd like to admit, just to be close to her.  As she was lost to me, it seemed like a part of me had died as well.

Oooh, you make me more curios about this situation! I haven't found the basement yet.

That was ironic. Well, I'll be looking forward for the next. I love background story so much!

I don't know if this was intended or not, but your use of nighttime screenshots for this chapter (at least the outdoors shots) really added to the somber ambiance of the story. I cannot imagine what he would be feeling.

Yeah, I loved the irony of him ending up going to work for the Landgraabs.

I'm glad you enjoyed and appreciated the ambience I was creating.  Thanks for that!

Eventually, I became closer to my co-workers

and was invited for dinner at the Bunch household by my colleague Judy.

Her family was delightful.  For the first time since the explosion, I started to feel alive.

Their eldest daughter, Lisa, was a wonderfully understanding listener.  I shared about my losses

and she was shocked when I let it slip that I had dabbled in alchemy.  It had fallen entirely out of favor in this time period, yet young miss Bunch was fascinated by it.  Had I found a true friend to understand me in this strange, foreign time?

Now that was an unexpected twist. It's rare that I've seen any story have any sort of focus on Lisa. You've definitely piqued my curiosity. :)

Glad to see that he can get in touch with such a wonderful family. This is not like I am expected.
Oooh, I love to see Bunch family get a little love from you, Pippin!

Officer Keaton, who was kind enough to let me call her by her first name of Justine, tried to help me find my family.

Technically, these Clavells were the descendants of my father through my brother.

I was greeted at the door by Bessie Clavell.   She was a rather kind woman and instantly displayed the warmth and graciousness that my Jennie always displayed when we had guests.  I disguised my moment of getting choked up at the recollection by claiming that I had a tickle in my throat.  Bessie seemed a touch suspicious, but let it go.

She invited me in and actually was able to help fill in some of the gaps for me about how the family had fared in the time I'd missed.  She seemed to be quite the amateur historian and had photo albums along with her stories.  She even pointed out how much I resembled Wilhelm Clavell's oldest boy who had gone missing.  I stifled a laugh at that.

She then informed me that the rumors had been tossed around that I had run off and joined a band of sky pirates and had therefore become a stain upon the family's reputation.  The family name, it seems, might have ended with Bessie's generation if she and her husband had not adopted a son.

Xavier Clavell seemed like a nice enough fellow.  He had that air about him that made him seem instantly familiar.  We enjoyed a brief chat before he excused himself to leave for work...and I think he might have stolen my pocket watch.

This story is really good.  I'm enjoying it so much.  Xander being adopted explains so much!
