Furniture Interactions
« on: April 25, 2013, 10:20:47 AM »
I've just found that you can download new houses & sims that other players have made & put on the exchange.

I downloaded a house, went to edit town & build/buy to have a nose in this new house. Some of the furniture are really close together making new furniture. How has this been done? If I move a piece & try to put it back it says 'can't intersect other objects' so how has this person managed to over rule this ruling?

It's done by using the Move Objects On cheat while in Buy Mode.  :)

While in Buy or Build mode, bring up the cheats console using control+shift+c, then type in moveobjects on.  You'll be able to do all sorts of interesting things with this, but be sure to turn it off when you're finished using the cheat "moveobjects off".  For more information on cheats, see the Guide page here.

Be careful when downloading items from the exchange. Many of those items contain third party content (CC) which can damage your game.

Thank you. How would I know which items are harmful & which are safe?

There is no way to know - that is the scary part. There are 3rd party CC that's ok and there is bad 3rd party CC that corrupts your game, the main problem when downloading from the exchange is that the CC often isn't declared. Meaning people who upload a sim/lot don't write down which specific CC they have used.

The best way to learn more about CC is to check out some larger CC sites and read up on users recommendations. Also, always add only one piece of CC at a time so you know what is causing problems.

I'. afraid it's a bit hit and miss - have fun in the jungle.

Lots of creators will say something like "no CC" in the name of their sim/lot. It's still not a complete guarantee, but it's usually a good indicator.

Someone has a small program out there too, used to be called "Custard", that you can use to look at the Sims3pack before you install it. It will show you the items that are CC and sometimes tell you if they are corrupted or not. But it also gives you the functionality of deselecting the CC that you don't want to install with the Sims3pack when you install it. It is an older program and I am not sure if the maker keeps it up-to-date. But anytime I install a lot, sim, or household from the exchange and I don't know who it came from, I run it through Custard first and deselect anything CC-ish.
