The sims 3 on iMac.
« on: April 23, 2013, 03:16:48 PM »
Hello,

I've saved and saved and saved and can now afford an iMac. I've never played or known anybody that plays the sims 3 on a iMac and I was just wondering if it works fine? Graphics wise?

Here are the main specs;
1TB hard drive
8GB memory (4Gb)
3.6ghz
Nivea GeForce gtx 675mx with 1GB

Thank you.

I play on an old iMac and Metro plays on a new one.  I've had no issues but double check the main forums for threads to make sure that graphics card works well for the game/is supported.   Just ignore all the people that tell you to just get a PC.

If I find any relevant threads when I look later I'll come back with links or someone else might know one or two off hand.

Thank you for getting back to me!

Ive been looking online and I think I saw something that says the sims 3 supports the gtx video cards but I'm not that sure, I'm glad it does work on mac though.

I have an iMac, and I've encountered problems. But I have a different Graphics Card, and yours looks very good.

Yes I've been saving up since 2011 and the cards keep changing! I've heard there has been some problems but I guess every game has some bugs/glitches. My old laptop can't handle all these expansions so this iMac should.

Well, actually, there are a lot of glitches, more than a normal game gets. I get crashes every 30 minutes. If I'm lucky, I only get 45 minutes. I get graphic glitches in CAS often, and my game freezes often too. I think you should check the mac forums and ask Mac users there what they think. Thank you for the link Corey, I've decided to order it around summer time! What year is your iMac? I heard the late 2011 ones are having some problems more than others. What video card have you got?

Your welcome.  :) Mine is Mid-2011 21' iMac. My Specs:

2.7 GHz Intel Core i5

12 GB RAM

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB

OS: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)

A lot of people with 2011-2013 iMacs are suffering problems.

Ah I hope it gets fixed soon! Sadly I can't change the type I'm going to get because I need this mac that I'm going to get to last me a good few years. I guess all I can do is just wait and see, it's a shame that macs are having problems with this game!

Looking online at the gtx GeForce series it's getting good reviews from people who play the sims 3 but sadly I can't be sure that I will get that video card with mine in a few months.

Nvidia GTX is very good. If you have too many problems, you can always use bootcamp (a program provided by apple that allows you to download Windows on your mac).

Yes! I've heard that windows can help, sadly I've never used a mac in my life so I'm going to have to find my way around it before I even play the sims on it! They also have I think two video cards in it? I'm not sure though.
