Finally content with the troops’ progress, Shang decided it was time to head out and face the Hun. Too long had they terrorized the people of China.
They had last been seen near The Land of Lost Souls, so the troops began to make the long trek there.
Along the way, Mulan brought up the rear. Looking back to check for an ambush, she spotted a scout from the Hun Army aiming an arrow at Shang. Without thinking, she rushed at him, and they began to battle. Hearing the altercation, everyone rushed back, but by the time they arrived Mulan had already finished the scout off, but at a cost.
Shang had the medic look Mulan over thoroughly, and in a daze she momentarily forgot her secret. That is, until she saw Shang’s face.
“Shang please! Yes I lied to you, but that does not change the bonds I’ve built here with everyone…with you. I only came to stop my father from coming, as he is in no condition to—“
“Don’t you see! It changes everything! It was not your call to decide what your father should do. You dishonored your family, broke the trust of your brothers here, and betrayed me…”
“Shang…”
“Women of China do not fight. It is a law punishable by death. You saved my life, so I’ll spare yours, but you are no longer one of us.”
Mulan watched as the troops marched away.
“Now I know you are not going to let things end like that,” Mushu jumped in.
“Look I know you thought I could be great, but let’s face it, it’s over.”
“Listen, the truth is I only came to you so I could free myself from servitude of the real guardians. But the Fae really does see something special in you, and now I do too. I can’t promise you that everything will be alright, but I am in this with you.”
