Hahaha. Do what I do: Say it's just an automatic option that requires no interaction between sims.

Well, I'm pretty sure that actually is how pregnancy used to work in the original Sims, so it's not that hard to believe.  :P

This isn't exactly embarrassment and better than having to explain woohoo to parents or younger siblings, but I don't know where else to put it.

So my laptop is currently in the shop for issues with my screen. Thankfully, my brother lets me use his laptop since he rarely uses it and he's rarely home when I am. It seemed like a great idea to go about my usual business and hang around this forum and a handful of other simming sites, since it's not like he'd care.

It turns out that my brother syncs all his web activity on his laptop to his phone, which he uses all the time. He was surfing the web on his phone last night and all my forum activities were visible on his phone too! He's pretty aware of my simming habit, but he did have a weird surprise and a good laugh at seeing it all on his devices. My parents also had a chuckle at it too. Needless to say, I've been in Incognito mode on Chrome ever since.

I could have much worse on my web history, but I've liked simulation games since I was a kid, and my family thinks it's a harmless but weird and childish thing for me to still hang on to.

(Though I did have to explain woohoo to my brother some time back. He's nearly 18, so it's not inappropriate, but it was still an awkward conversation)
No respect, no chance, cease and desist when I chant-

My thirteen-year-old cousin was reading the Forum and asked me what WooHoo was. I had that moment of embarrassment and confusion and then stumbled out with--'It's something only adults should do.' And then, thank goodness, he just said 'Ohhhh' and kind of laughed and moved on. Whew!

knowing me, I would have looked at them and sang "it's all about the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees and a thing called loooovvve".  They would have made a face and told me I can't carry a tune.

Then told them that if they didn't understand what having zug zug or making whoopie was, they needed to talk to their parents.   Then had a talk with my relatives about having a talk with the kids.

Nothing I do in games is really embarrassing for me.  I live with my brother and his wife and all three of us are (very) adults.  My brother watches me when I play games sometimes and he just doesn't get the appeal.  The Sims especially.

One day I was playing Sims, and my brother came in and sat down to watch me and talk like he usually does.  He watched me as I guided my Sims throughout their lives for probably close to a half hour.  I looked over at him and he has this confused look on his face, like he just didn't get what was going on.  Finally, he asks:  "What's the point of this game?"

I explained how the object was to guide the Sims through their daily lives, send them to work, have kids and then they grow old and die.  He didn't look any less confused, but he watched for a few more minutes before he asked:  "Well...how do you win?"  I told him that you don't really win, because it just goes on forever.  He sat there for a few minutes, still confused, before he got up and walked off without saying a word, shaking his head.

Yeah, he thinks I'm a bit weird.  :P

@ Hosfac

That is my son, he goes you have to set a goal and that is the end of the game, games have to have a finish.
I keep telling him, I don't have a set goal, I want to maybe go to five generations, or do a certain thing, but that doesn't mean the game ends, I can just continue on if I want.
Or, I can stop playing that game and start another family.  That isn't quitting, it just switching families.

He played one time, chose the medical field and built his sim a square box home.  He had his sim eat at the park most of the time although he ordered pizza sometimes.  That was it, no going out, no talking to others, just going to work, working on skills, take care of basic needs and when he reached level 10, that was the end of the game.  He won't ever be playing it again.

He just doesn't get it. Life doesn't end in real life at a set time; we have changes, marry, divorce, suffer losses, have happy events, go to college, get a job or find a new job, retire, get old, watch those we love die and mourn them and then we die and hope others mourn our passing.

I may have already posted this somewhere.  My problem is not that the game causes me embarrassment in the normal ways that one would expect.  What happens is that my family (all of my family) are wildly uninterested in the game.  They won't look at it, they won't listen to me when I talk about the exciting stuff that's coming.  They give me a polite little smile and then just move along to something else.  They don't care one little whit about my Sims 3 game.  And!  This is my regular job!  Working for Carl and running the forum are what I do for a career.  So, it's not like I'm talking about just a game I like.  I'm talking about my job, my self-employment stuff, etc.  I find it to be quite annoying.

Poor Pam! It's hard when the people around you aren't invested in something that is such a big part of your life. I thought I had it bad! My friends and family aren't interested in the Sims either. My mum and dad actually unconsciously yawn every time I bring up the Sims. The one thing is that people are usually impressed when I tell them I have a lot of views on my stories, because that is something they can kind of understand, but once I go off on who's gone on a date with Marielle or how many generations are left of the Callahans, I lose them. If it helps any, I'm sure I'm not the only one here who is insanely jealous of your job! I wish I got to do something with Sims for a career!

Yes, I'm amazingly fortunate to be able to do this.  It works for me in so many ways and it's been so satisfying and exciting to see it grow from nothing four years ago to all this now.  My husband thinks it's awesome, of course, but the rest of my family doesn't care at all.  Sometimes I bring it up just to watch them quickly get bored and change the subject.

Well it's good that you have your husband's support. That is the most important. You've worked hard and you're so dedicated and loyal, you definitely deserve respect and admiration for that. It's kind of sad and funny, but I'm glad you are able to see the bright side and get some amusement out of your family's total lack of interest.

My sister was more interested in my job when I worked for a company that sold sand.  I'm not even kidding.

Pam, I am so sorry for laughing at that. But I can understand. Out of all of my friends, none of them really care for video games (if they do, then it's something like Minecraft, but there's nothing wrong with it, it just makes my simming ever more lonely,) or if they do seem to like it, the fact of how much money everything is turns them down.
Thankfully one of my friends listens to me rant about sims since I listen to her rant about the newest updates for Insta-Face-Twit, iWindows7 or whatever.

My husband politely listens to me jabber on about my sim families and always stops by my computer to kiss me goodnight and tell me how cute my latest nooboo is...just so long as I politely listen to him jabber on about his latest FPS game and congratulate him when he gets a kill (or whatever).
