Okay I think I finally got it to work or at least I now got a message that my game is now up to date.  Who knows but I have renewed hope.  There are four of us here who play the Sims so it isn't for naught that I want to get the game on another computer.  What I did was put the WA disc in the laptop and then clicked on the base game Sims3 icon on the desktop.  It told me once again that I needed to update but this time it actually seemed to do it and I didn't get that ugly red "x".  It went through the whole thing and then told me it is up to date.  If I ever get WA on here I am going out and dancing in the street!  Okay, WA is actually installing.  I never thought I'd see the day.  Well, out to the street now!  LOL

Well, I guess I must add to this thread.

I'm having the same problem with my Sims 3 game on my husbands PC (thankfully not on the laptop which is where I play most of my Sims and my challenges). I started the game up 2 days ago after not having played on the PC since March. Everything was great until I installed Ambitions. Then it decided after about 15 seconds (real time) to just die. No explanations. Just a black screen and then the desktop. Nice. Went through all the checks, same thing. Uninstalled, reinstalled all 4, same thing.

Found this thread and read through it. Got my husband's computer science brain involved. Followed Frey's instructions from July 19 to the letter. I did change one thing though. After talking it through with the computer brain, we thought that since the expansion CDs include the patches from the last one, updating through the launcher after each installation was redundant and perhaps that was the problem.

Last night we did the computer clean-up and this morning I installed the base game. Opened the launcher, said no to updating, and opened the game. Works perfectly! Victory #1. Then I exited the game without saving and installed WA, updating when the installer told me I had to. Again, opened the launcher, said no to updating and ran the game. Works again! Victory #2. On to High-End Loft Stuff. Same process, same outcome. Victory #3! Ambitions proved the sticking point. Again I said no to updating from the launcher and just went in to play the game. 15 seconds later, black screen and desktop. Aarghh! I then updated Ambitions through the launcher just to see if it would help. It didn't.

So I uninstalled Ambitions, but now HELS claims the black screen and dies. So, at the moment, I have reinstalled Ambitions and will wait patiently until the hubby comes home from work in 3 hours to see if he has anymore ideas.

If anyone else has any ideas please don't hold back, I've run out. Other than uninstalling everything, again.

Riverview doesn't show up - AGAIN
« Reply #17 on: June 15, 2011, 11:17:29 PM »
Some time ago I posted here looking for help with Riverview, which didn't show up in my game. I got help and fixed it... but now it's broken again! The problem came back after installing Generations, but that might be just coincidence? Anyway, I already tried doing the same thing that fixed it the last time, but this time it's now working.

Anyway, here's the thing:
The launcher says it's installed, the download interface says it's installed, but it's not in my Downloads folder or my Installed Worlds folder, and it doesn't show up in the main menu when I open my game (that is, when I try creating a new game). I did a quick search around my computer for Riverview files and I found over 250!? so I thought about making some general clean up and then downloading it again... but my system won't let me delete the files because apparently they are not in their original location anymore (no idea what that means). So, here's my question (or questions):

1) is it possible to clean my Riverview files directly from the registry but without eliminating the whole game?
2) would that help?
3) how do I do that?
4) Is there any other possible solution?

I have already eliminated files from the registry so I don't have a problem with that, I just don't want to mess with it without instructions because I don't want to cause any more trouble.

frey, I've been having trouble with Riverview (and other stuff from the store) not being available in the game, but showing up as downloaded and installed. I think it's connected with the change from EADM to Origin, but don't know for sure.

I had this problem before I uninstalled and reinstalled my base game, WA and Ambition to get rid of the 1.22 patch, which had made travel a risky undertaking. I still have the problem with Riverview, etc. not being available.

I did not follow the instructions given for manually uninstalling -- I didn't find them until after I'd uninstalled -- so it took me an afternoon to get things working again. I don't know what I did right, but I'm very grateful for the information on this site.

Anyway, if someone has had this problem and found a fix, there's two of us that would like to know what to do.

I FIXED IT!!!!! It's been a lucky day, got to fix two issued in a row lol.

I had searched in EA's customer service for Riverview-fixing instructions but there weren't any, so I never looked back there... but yesterday in my desperation I thought maybe I would find something useful, and I did!!! and I fixed it this morning. Here's what I did:

- Delete ALL Riverview-related files from my system
- Clean my Temp folder (which I didn't know existed... so there were 6 GB of garbage in it!).
- Clean my Internet Cache just in case, since I do that regularly.
- Remove all my CC from the Downloads folder in case there was any incompatible archive in there... which I doubt, because I had done that before, but I did it anyway.
- Start my launcher as an admin and download/install Riverview from the Store.

Most of these instructions are here: http://support.ea.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1329/kw/launcher
(I hope it's OK to copy this link here, it's from EA's customer service website. If it's not, I'm really sorry and won't do it again).
They're actually for downloaded Sims not showing up in the game, but I figured it would be the same thing, so I tried... and it worked. No idea what was wrong, but it fixed the problem and now I'm loading Riverview in my game =).

Good luck, I hope it helps!

Frey,

I'm so glad you got Riverview. I finally added it just now. If anyone else has the same problem, here's what worked for me:

I updated EADM to Origin, and also added the update for Origin and installed Origin.

Someone on the EA Sims 3 Forum had suggested using the Download Dashboard, opened from inside the game, so I tried that. I had to wait about a minute for Riverview to load, but it was there! Now to add my other stuff -- and, oh yes, play the game.

Great! The Dashboard had worked for me the first time my Riverview got broken, but not this time. I'm really glad you got your Riverview to work as well... it's actually my favorite world in the game  :D
