Why Are Sims Stupid Sometimes?

OK so I play The Sims 3 Pets for PS3 but this isn't really a console subject because I've had it happen on PC The Sims games too.

So, my Sim's carpool pulls up so my sim can go to work and instead of going out the front door like a normal person would she goes out the backdoor, around the right side of the house and through the opening I created in a fence to make a cool driveway.  There's nothing blocking the way of the front door, not even a person.  Any other time she goes out the front door.

Next a couple times my sims decided to wash their dishes in the bathroom sink, which is diagonal from the dining room.  Any other time they would put their dishes in the dishwasher.  Again, no one was in the way and nothing is blocking the door.

Mine do that kinda stuff all the time, like in a house with 4 bathrooms and a pee emergency they pick the bathroom 2 stories up on the other end of the house when all of them are empty. My favorite is picking up the baby, snuggling it and walking clear to the other cradle to lay it down. Baby in a house full of adults, no one will let it sleep, they all just keep waking it up to hold it and set it back down, it's caused two toddlers to get bad traits because they could never get well rested. I had an inappropriate sim that couldn't be left alone (even with the inappropriate in a good way reward), she would get on the computer and make inappropriate forum posts or I'd find her insulting everyone (including the kids), I ended up moving her out because she had manged to make enemies of everyone in the house and no amount of damage control was making a dent it in it.
