Is there a way to set the dormitory lot assignment in-game?

I caved in and picked up University Life, and the first brief impression was fun enough. The control freak in me did some editing of the university neighbourhood, of course -- including on the sorority and one of the co-ed dorms. Then I saved them to the bin for re-using in new games.

But it turns out that the dorm (single-sex or co-ed) apparently can't be placed without losing their lot assignment? They save just fine and show their correct lot type in the lot bin. Bulldoze the original dorm building, though, and it turns out that the saved one can't be placed on the lot although both the empty lot and the saved lot show as "sorority" still. So I guess the lot type isn't actually being saved properly. I've had the same issue with one of the World Adventures lot assignments which, like the dorms, isn't available in the actual game, only in CAW.

Long story short, is there a way to properly save and place a dorm or another normally unavailable lot type? Workarounds, cheats, mods even?

I found that if I changed the designation of the lot, on which I wanted  to place my dormitory, to 'visitors allowed' then I was able to place it successfully and the game recognised it as a dormitory.

That doesn't work for me, sadly. The lot just gets re-labelled to "no visitors allowed" once I place the saved dorm building from the bin.

Strange. But you can always change the designation in edit town mode (at least I can do this in my game) can you?

Grr. I figured it out -- one of my mods is apparently the culprit for blocking access to the three dorm lot assignments. I haven't figured out which, yet, but I guess it's a reminder that the first thing one should do when a problem occurs is test if a mod is causing it. I'm facepalming a bit here for forgetting that.
