Herbal Tolerance?
« on: April 07, 2013, 01:43:35 PM »
Hi, longtime lurker (like a decade ::) ), first post.

I just would like to comment on - and hear other's experiences with herbs and barista/herbal drinks.  It seems when you first start to consume them, unless they are very superior in quality they will make your sim sick (the Herb Sickness moodlet), even a single serving.  After putting a barista bar in my home lot to keep my Rebel Influence up, the more teas my sims drink the less likely they are to become ill. If this is true, it would be very handy knowledge in University or in somewhere like Bridgeport where gardening either can't be done at all or in very small amounts.

Is it wishful thinking, or do subpar herbs (normal to very nice) need to be repeatedly consumed (hopefully with sweetgrass of any quality) to acclimate the sim to the herb?

I've found that my sims don't get sick from a particular type however if they have more than one before the first one's moodlet runs out they get sick.

I've had a sim who actually never hot sick from a herbal drink (Could have just been a moodlet glitch.) I'll probably go play around with herbal drinks and sims sometimes soon, out of curiosity.

My guess is it's purely random chance, but it'd be nifty if there was some kind of hidden tolerance stat.  Usually I just give my sims the simmunity lifetime reward and then let them go wild with the herbs.  Most of my workaholic sims live on nothing but raw basil to help them rocket through their careers!

I have one sim that can eat herb after herb without getting sick, but her husband can't eat one herb without getting sick. Poor little guy   ;)

At uni I had my sim go to coffeeshop to get wonderpetal tea to study and anytime she got it she was sick.

It was hit or miss for my sim until she reached level 10 of rebel. Then it was almost never. After returning home, she has never gotten sick, and uses the herbs all the time. However, some people eating at her house, have been sick.

I did some mild playing around with it, and figured out a few things. Herbal tolerance depends on the herb. Some herbs may make a sim sick 24/7, while some may never make said sim ill. Although I'm still playing around with it, I don't see a pattern in this-  I believe it is just a randomized thing. Also, as MoMoll pointed out, Rebel status does affect the said "herbal tolerance."

Thank you so much for easing my poor addled brain.  It makes total sense that using the bar to raise Rebel Influence made her get sick less often.  I tend to WAY overthink things, and yet there it is, Occam's Razor all nice and wrapped in a shiny bow.

Much props.
