Music career, playing for tips

I have a gutair and i am at the level to play for tips, but when i play no one actually ever gives me tips.
Do you actually get tips or not.
am i doing something wrong? If so what?

Sunset Valley and Bridgeport seem to be the only towns where you can get tips easily, at least in my experience. And in Bridgeport, the only good place is in the subway. People might also be willing to tip in Starlight Shores, but I've not played a guitarist there so don't know for sure.

If your sim is in some other town, try adding a subway to a nearby park -- that's if you have the Late Night expansion pack.

Standing somewhere a lot of sims walk by is another idea. Like outside the theater or supermarket.
