Can't connect to Origin/launcher shuts down
« on: April 05, 2013, 03:32:59 PM »
When my launcher comes up, if I IMMEDIATELY hit the play button I go into my game just fine.  However, if I wait at all, like when I want to install an item that I downloaded, I get the message, "Can't connect to Origin".  My Origin is up to date as is my game.  My game files are cleaned up, (caches etc.).  I would really love to install the items I've bought but don't know any way to do this since I can't keep the launcher open long enough to find them in the "Downloads" section.  Is there a way to fix the "Can't connect to Origin" thing?  I have tried having Origin open, minimized and closed and none of these has an effect.
What?  Grannies can't play games?

How about turning of Origin completely?

I only open Origin once in a while, because it usually makes my launcher wonky. I can still play the game (even log on to the sims3 site) and it has made my game much more stable. I don't know if it will work for you but it might be worth a try.

To bad this didn't help.
Back to the installing issue. Can you reopen the launcher once the game is running? Can you install by clicking on the downloaded file?

Yes, and sometimes.  lol  If I keep on trying the launcher, after several tries, (like 15 or more), it eventually stays open and I can install items via the launcher.  Also can do things while in game via the launcher.  Mr. Flynn says he thinks my launcher is broken and I should uninstall back to when I first noticed the problem which is actually several EP's ago.

That is probably the only way to fix it. To bad it takes ages to do so... I guess you'll have to get around to it one of these days.

You may also want to try the cumulative or "Super Patch": http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/175477.page

It will probably complain you're already patched to the correct level, but offer you to "Patch anyway". It may correct some issues and in general is less work than re-installing. Note that it IS a 1.2GB download.
