Building question for advanced builders
« on: July 16, 2010, 08:47:03 AM »
I need some help from advanced builders. I'm trying to build on the side of a hill with the main entry level with the ground and a floor or floors beneath that one. Now I can do it if I use the foundation tool for the lower floor, but that means that you actually have steps up to the entry level (which I don't want) I'm not even sure if it can be done. I thought I had seen a tutorial for TS2 doing something like it, but I can't find it now of course to see if it's something that could be converted to TS3. So if anyone know how to or can point me to a tutorial, I'd be very appreciative. I don't mind using cheats but I'm not keen on it being dependent on CC.

Thanks
Norma

All I can think of is placing foundation to the height you want then make a gap in it where you want the Stairs to go to the ground floor?

Maybe a rubbish diagram might help?

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{
{{     lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll{{{
{{     {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{

{{{{ = Foundation
llllllllll = Stairs

I can't think of anything else but maybe you could try this?  ???

I can achieve this using the constrainfloorelevation cheat which is what I want to do but..

even after the cheat is turned off, as soon as I try to do anything else, the bit of flooring at the front jumps up.

I'll try and leave leveling that bit till the very last, but I'm not even sure it will be stable in game.

Have you considered using the terrain tool to flatten the lot, or do you want it to be multi-leveled?  If you flatten it and build, I THINK you can raise the elevation again in the spots you want higher.

No, it's meant to be multi level down the hill, so that what you see from the road is just the top level. I think I'm getting closer, but it would be easier if there was a tutorial to follow. Oh well, if it doesn't work, I probably just use the raised foundation tool and be done with it, because one way or the other, I want to build this house (well try anyway)

I don't think it's possible Norma... But maybe you could make a gap for the foundation on the 'visible floor' to fit in so you don't see that ugly foundation...

Yes, I'm beginning to think that myself. I have been searching through so many sites with tutorials and nowhere have I found anything like it. Guess I'll just use the foundation and do heaps of landscaping around the front to hide it.
Now do I load my wishmaster game or load my building neighbourhood  :-\

I've been trying to do the same thing for a while and haven't come up with anything good yet.  I'll keep you updated on my progress.

Raised foundation tool?  What is that, please?  Sounds like this house is going to be really cool.

Just the normal foundation tool. I meant raised as in it raises the floor level up off the ground as opposed to the normal floor just being ground level.

Ah.  Thank you.  I've been wondering if using the cheat that lets you put things on top of things were you normally couldn't would do it for you.  I forget the name of it, which is why I don't do cheats more, but you could maybe stack foundation to raise different levels.  What do you think?
