Play pen and toddler walker
« on: April 03, 2013, 03:01:14 AM »
Out of interest does anyone know what skills your toddler learns in the playpen? Obviously charisma but I can't work the other one out. I assumed maybe science when UL started but it doesn't seem to on any of my sims. My other thought was logic but my sims usually learn the logic first then go in the playpen and still have the 3 hidden levels learnt...

In addition, with the toddler walker there are two levels on the 'play' interaction. I haven't figured what skills that corresponds with either.

Any ideas?

The Playpen teaches Talking, Charisma and Logic. The Walker teaches Walking and Handiness, I think. According the the page it also increases motives but I don't remember that so I can't confirm that aspect of it.

Maybe I need to pay more attention then; I'm sure the children only start as normal on level 3 (peg box). Unless that is as high a level as you can get, surprised that it still shows the skilling if they have already learnt it...

I don't think the walker increases handiness but I could be wrong. Maybe I will test it on my new nooboo and not have them learn from any other item and see what happens.

They do both increase the motives though which is good.

Yeah I think it only goes to Level 3, it just lets you level it. I think it might because my heir spent time playing in the walker and then once at Shop Club he seemed to jump from Level 1 to 2 and then to 3 in one after-school session. The action cancels though so you have to queue loads up.

I know for certain that you can get Charisma from the playpen and Handiness from the walker but you only get two points from what I can tell.   All of my toddlers only went up two skill bars before not getting anymore.

And like Thomas said, they cancel the action regardless of static or dynamic needs.

Yeah I was aware that you have to keep stacking the play interactions. I mean I have made it up to the second completed hidden level each time I've used it.

I always use the block table as well so maybe you can only go up to the third level as with the logic peg block and when using the play pen.

I'm one of those people who once my sim has a skill point, they have to max the skill; So was curious with what each one did.

Just to confirm: three points of logic gained from play pen and two points for handiness from walker.

Tested by ageing up without learning any other skills.

Have to admit I'm slightly disappointed they are the same skills you can learn with the other child toys 😔

Don't forget Charisma.  Charisma can't be learned early by anything else.

Yeah of course, charisma is a good skill to learn early - was aware you could learn it from the mirror on the play pen but wasn't sure about the others mentioned above.

Just a question what expansion do you play? I'm asking because I only have generation and ambitions installed and I don't see play pen and walker available?

The Playpen and Walker comes with the Gold Edition of Aurora Skies from the Sims 3 Store. On that page if you click the gold tab you will see the premium content. I'm not sure if the Tiny Prodigy Learning Centre will be available separately or not in the future though.

My toddler (vampire), who had already read the logic books and played with the peg box, maxed out logic by queuing up play interactions with the abacus. When she aged up to child, she started getting tutored, and got the notifications again. She then received twelve skill certificates in the mail for logic!

12 certificated makes quite some cash. Now she can buy all the things she wanted for her bedroom ::)

I'm wondering if you put a floor mirror in a child's play area/room, would they chat to themselves and gain charisma as they do in the play pen?  I bought the play pen but am rather disappointed with it and I hate seeing a toddler all alone in one of those things!
What?  Grannies can't play games?

That toddler playpen can be so frustrating! It took nearly two sim hours the get the toddlers in! There were tracking issues, they were throwing fits over nothing, and made my head pound! Here's another one of my problems, I queued the action for the toddler to talk and they did it for like 5 seconds and immediately switched to something else. It made it totally useless. So if you want it to work, your gonna have to constantly queue it. If anyone reading is debating on getting the Gold Edition of Aurora Skies just for the toddler stuff, you might wanna rethink! I, in a way, regret spending $40!   :-\
