Can I lower nerd social status?

I made a girl and she went to Uni and met a boy there. He is a level 10 nerd and I want him to be a game developer. However he doesn't have the extra trait from being a level 10 nerd. I even moved my sim and him in together after the girl got back home and nothing. He dosen't have the job offer. Which is different from the other sim because when she went home she got the job offer because she reached a level 10 rebel. What do I do ?
Can I lower his social status within the nerd group ? Because maybe that might help.

Status within groups will decay naturally. The extra trait actually unlocks itself at level eight of group influence, and it might also be because he reached high influence while not a part of the household, therefore not getting any of the benefits associated with it. I don't know if letting his influence decay and building it back up again will set things straight, but it's worth a shot.

If he is level 10 with the nerd social group, you can try clicking on the building associated with the career to join it.  I believe it is the business building for the video game developer.
