Definitely Lane can be proud. And so can you! The first few generations are the hardest.

Entry 1 - Arts and Leisure

I'm Cate Hall.  I never knew my grandparents, but I know my parents, my uncle, and my sister.  To me, that's more important than knowing some people who died long before I was even a spark in Mom's eyes.  Mom likes big words and reading Corrin's Old World books, but why does that matter more than what we have now?  She's passed the family on to me, and I plan to look ahead, not behind.  We have our entire futures in front of us, why not reach for it?

Abram had been dating my cousin for awhile, but after they broke it off, we finally met each other.  I love him more than anything, and I don't think anything will ever change that.

Like I said, reach for the future, and Abram fully agrees with me.  He's already gotten a job at the stadium, which was almost a dream of mine until I met some of the military patrolling at curfew.

I'm pregnant, and I told Mom first thing.  After Abram of course.

She's excited, definitely, family's always been really important to her.  She tries to talk about extending the family line and all that, but I don't really care about all that.  Legacy and whatever, that's the word for it.  I just want to live, and I want my child to live.  Not survive, live.  That's my dream.

Dad's pretty excited about the new baby too.  I can almost tell he's not sleeping as much as he should be.  Work's getting to him more than it should I think, getting that last promotion has him stressed out.  He'll get it though, he's great like that.

Oh, all that being said, I almost forgot!  Len got his last promotion at work and finally figured out how to get the ovens around town working again.  We hauled one in and he's in love with it, and we FINALLY have plenty to eat!  It's great, and fantastic timing, since, you know, pregnant.

I think Corrie's actually kind of happy she won't have kids.  She's still too young, of course, but she's not too thrilled with everything the way it's going.  In my opinion?  She'll focus more on her career.

Entry 2 - Helpful

Why is it that when you need someone the most, they're the most useless?  Even Mom freaked out when I went into labor, and it's not like she never had kids.  In fact, after all of this happened, I flipped back through the book and saw how my Dad reacted and Mom's opinion on it.  She didn't think she'd be useless when this happened to me?  HA!  Of course Abram wasn't going to be much help, he's still not sure how he feels about kids, but he promises to do his best with ours.

Meet my son, Aren, and he's already got the whole family wrapped around his little finger.

Especially his Granny.  I'm not sure she ever thought she'd make it this far, or that she'd even see a grandkid.  I know how much it meant to her, even though she is being a little annoying about it all, but hey, whatever.  Free babysitter, right?

Corrie's a Young Adult now too, and joined the local political chain as soon as she was able.  She's getting annoyed with the way our bunker looks, she wants to expand, but with everything the government is doing, it's impossible.  So... she's trying to take over, to get things onto a more even track, try to get all the corrupted old guys out of office and make life a little more streamlined.  Definitely not a bad idea, right?

We talked about it for awhile, and, well...

...before I look for a job, we're having another baby.  This is the last one though, promise.

Aren grew up a little, big enough to start learning all our bad habits.

Mom jumped at the chance to teach him how to talk, but I took care of the rest of it.  Mama knows best, after all!

I love my little man, everyone does.  I've even found Corrie snuggling with him a little when she doesn't think anyone's watching.  She thinks she's sneaky, but I know better.  Oh yeah, I'm the older sister, I can sniff it all out!

I had to give him one last cuddle as a toddler, because after that, I had my daughter.

Anna was born just before Aren became a child.  If you thought Aren had everyone whipped, you haven't seen anything yet.

Aren, however, is plotting revenge.

An Interlude

I'll do my best to explain, I don't know how...

The pencil, it... it... falls sometimes.  It's hard to keep hold of it when....

...

Much easier when I was solid.

Since I died, things have... come to light.

I don't... don't know what's real anymore.

This or my old life.  I... I was immortal once.  ...supposed to be.

Menes...

Did he set me up?

Children...
I love you, please keep fighting.

I'll... do what I can to find out.

Please don't...

...forget me...

I must bookmark this in the hope that you will carry on with updating the story very soon:)
I find this challenge not just hard on the 'doing' aspect but also remembering all the rules, it looks like you're following that complete, updated rule sets and I have to admire that - I was  recently thinking of doing one for its great story potential but then it's not the hardness that put me off, but those tons of novel-like rules:(

Sorry for the lack of updating lately, the game was making me a little mad because it kept crashing for awhile.  But everything's back on track now and generation 5 was just born in-game.  Hope to get things caught up soon!

--------------

b]Entry 3 - Growth and Development[/b]

Anna grew up a little and became the image of her father.  Only cuter and a girl.  Everyone's smitten with her, even Len, who's stayed alone for awhile.  I don't know what's happened with him, but he seems a little... bitter about things.  I wish we knew what was wrong, but it seems like he's just going to stay distant.

He is helping tutor Aren at least, I'll have to give him that much.  We all have so much to thank Len for, I'm always impressed.  He wakes up in the morning to make sure we all have food, he's tutored every child who's come into the family so far, and as much as I think he wants to, he never complains.  Len doesn't like Dad, I'm sure there's something behind it, but Mom never talks about it.  Looks like we're in the dark on this one.

Mom demanded time with Anna, and who am I to say no to her?  Chances are I'll have grandkids of my own I can spoil and teach.

We've all been quick learners, and it seems like Anna's no different.  The little time she has when she's not sleeping or learning new things, she spends with her bear.  It's gotten a little worn around the edges, but this little fella's been around since the beginning.  We're not about to trade it out now.

While we all work at our jobs, trying to improve life for the rest of the world, we do try to spend some time together.  Aren and Donovon bond over the chess table, like everyone else in the family has at some point or another.  It's another piece that's been around since the beginning.  The pieces are starting to get a little worn down from all the use, but that's alright.  Surely at some point we can either carve new ones, have some imported (ha, whenever THAT will happen), or recarve new features on these.

Grandma and Grandpa come out sometimes, and they've done something I've never seens before.  It looks like Grandma is trying to make up some lost time, and Anna doesn't seem scared.  Hey, whatever works, right?

The saddest part though, is Mom becoming an Elder.  At least she's not crazy like Grandma and Grandpa apparently were, but... it just reminds me it's almost time for her to go.  What will we do without her?  She's been the driving force for this family.  Hopefully there will still be awhile before anything happens, but... still...

Okay.  So.

My files got corrupted.  Hooray.  All the regular saves corrupted, even though I didn't even TRY to save on one of them, and all the backups are from 2 generations back from where I'd just gotten.

...as much as I'd like to say I'd finish this family, I don't think it's going to happen, there's no way I can re-trace all of that.  Hopefully I can start a new one soon, but for now, it seems like I failed due to corruption.

Sorry to hear about your corrupted game files.  If you try it again and write another story, I would love to read it.

So sorry to hear that. The first few generations of an apocalypse are always the hardest; it's too bad you couldn't keep going.
