Sims 3 not loading with windows 7
« on: March 26, 2013, 10:46:54 PM »
When I open up Sims 3 and then select "New Game" it starts to load and then about 1/5 through the loading bar it becomes white ish and my computer says it's not responding and then suddenly shuts the program down. Is anyone else having this problem, is it just me, why is it happening, and how can I solve this problem? This is extremely annoying by the way.  >:(

You can try what happens if you do a "factory reset" (rename your Documents\The Sims 3 folder so the game creates a new one). With that new folder your game really should start, if it doesn't, there's something wrong with your game installation itself (which can be remedied, only you have to make sure this is the problem).

Will this delete my current family's/game data? And because I'm not the best with computers can you give me more specific instructions?

I'm not sure there is a guide somewhere in this forum already, but basically the trick is this:

In your Documents, you'll find a The Sims 3 folder. This is the game folder, which holds all your saves, CC, settings etc. You'll find your save games in the Saves subfolder there.

If you delete that folder and start the game, the game will create a brand new one, and basically reset to factory defaults. However, this will also get rid of all your settings, saves and CC.

In this case you do not want that, so what you do is RENAME the folder instead of deleting it. If you start the game, it will not find the folder and create a new one, just as above, only you'll still have your stuff in the renamed folder.

The interesting thing here is to see whether the game will actually start now. Whether it does or does not determines the next action to take.
