Distorted pet in CAS
« on: March 14, 2013, 04:48:13 PM »
Got a cute doggie but wanted it to be a bichon frisee, (like my dog).  Went into CAS via the tce cheat and clicked on breeds, and bichon frisee.  It changed my pet into a monster, all weird and distorted.  I know this kind of distortion in pets has happened before but not sure why or if there is a fix.  When I left CAS and went back into my game the faces of my Sims were missing from the little bubble that shows where they are although they still appeared in the regular icons.

I quit the game without saving.

I closed out my game and restarted my pc.

Cleared out caches etc.

Got rid of "suspect" downloads, (exchange items) from everywhere, launcher, files, any place I could think to check.

Checked my pc for malware and viruses and did general clean up.

Restarted my pc.

Came back and went back into the game.  Same result of distorted pets but this time the little icons had their faces in them.

Is this a known bug or a problem with my game file?  Thanks so much for any help.

I know other people have experienced graphics problems with pets, but I don't know if there's a fix or not.  The only things I can think of other than what you've already done is to turn down your graphics settings and try a different game file.  Good luck, Joria, and please let us know if you find a solution!

I used to have graphic problems with my pets. I had a horse that looked like a dragon or demon lol. The way I fixed mine was replacing my chipset graphic card with a new one. Other than that I don't know how to fix it, sorry.

Thanks you two.  I know I need a better graphics card but right now it definitely isn't in the budget.
Kid needs $4,800 worth of dental work and no insurance to help cover it.  Includes oral surgery for wisdom teeth.  I'm going to try turning down the graphics and see if it helps.  Game is so slow anyway, if I was to show you graphically it would look like this: ------------play-----------play---------  with the dotted lines being pauses or stuttering so it takes me several minutes to accomplish any task.

You were so sweet to answer I'll give you the benefit of my current research.  To obtain the springtime gnome you must go to the park by 8 am and gather eggs.  Don't search for them, just do a long queue of picking up eggs and make sure you cover the entire fair ground.  Others will come to gather too so you want to be early.  Randomly one of the eggs will be a gnome instead of an egg.  When all the eggs have been gathered you'll get a message saying so and telling you to come back tomorrow. I didn't get one the first day I tried but I did get one the second day so if at first, etc.

Joria, have you tried to update your graphic drivers?  It's free, and might fix your problems.  I had a similar problem -- somewhat deformed pets and see-through fur, and updating my drivers worked for me.

Depending on the kind of computer you have, the instructions that you have to follow are different, so Google "update graphics drivers" and go to the correct website.

Also, if any other drivers need updating (the website should let you know), update them.  I was having similar problems with lag and updating my video driver fixed them.

On most computers, it actually doesn't have anything to do with the graphics card.  I know when I took a pet into CAS and changed the dogs size, from small to large, it got all distorted.  Same thing happens with some human sims too, if you change them from adult to youth or visa versa.  So maybe it might not be a good idea to change sizes, I suppose.  I have never had it happen when changing breeds or changing their fur though. :)

You're welcome. Wow that's alot of money!! You know, my game has been like that. Stuttering and pausing every few sim minutes. I used to think it was due to the bad GC, but I got that replaced and it still does it. I just now took Rose's advice, and googled the drivers, and I updated them. I'm real curious and hopeful it fixed it. I'll be back with an edit real soon!   ;D

EDIT: It's probably too early to be optimistic, because it still opened slowly. But I let him dance a few minutes and it seems to have helped. I'll let you know when I've played more, but Rose, you might have become my new best friend lol.
EDIT 2: I played for awhile, and it did seem to help the lagging I was having! Thanks so much Rose!
