Working Out at Home vs. Gym
« on: November 05, 2009, 12:13:42 AM »
It was brought up in another thread that athletes who work out at home gain Athletic skill faster than if they work out at the gym.  It's supposed to be just the opposite and I didn't have any idea that there was a problem.  I tested it myself and sure enough, the home athlete on a treadmill gained level 1 in about an hour.  The gym athlete on a treadmill got fatigued after 3 hours and 20 minutes without achieving level 1 at all.  Both had no Athletic skill at all when they started.  The gym athlete also had the Athletic trait and it didn't help one little bit.  The home athlete might have also had the Athletic trait, but I'm not certain without looking again.

I wonder if this will be fixed in a patch.  Does anyone know?

Edit:  The home athlete does not have the Athletic trait.

I'd be surprised if EA hasn't heard about this by now. I'm sure there's quite a few things that will be patched right in with World Adventures.

Were they both the exact same sim? weight, and muscle make a difference. Also, I think that EA said the gym improves athletic skill faster, and library improves reading time.

It wasn't the same exact Sim, but they weren't much different in size and muscle.  Definitely not enough difference to account for one hour vs. 3 1/2 hours to get to level 1.  And yes, EA did say the gym improves athletic skill faster, which is why there is a concern because it's not happening they way it's supposed to.  I haven't checked it again since the release of World Adventures.  If anyone has some specific data, please let us know!

Never resurrect a topic this old, (wasn't even here when this one got made actually :P) but as I haven't tested this testing myself that you Pam had done, I really hope this isn't the case anymore: home training works faster.
I'm building a gym right now you see.

The glitch is part of the base game where the gym lots in Sim towns actually make it take 50% longer instead of 50% shorter to level up.   There is an article where someone looked up the coding that can be found here.
