Author Topic: Pets issue: Sim and all pets appear selected; sim lost LTW; inventory messed up  (Read 3372 times)

  • I'm not home alone.  My sims are all here.
I am playing in Appaloosa Plains.  My sim has a horse, and used the phone to adopt a dog.  While he just had the horse, everything was fine - his lifetime wish showed up, his inventory was intact, and I could switch correctly between the sim and the horse. 

As soon as the dog arrived, the problem surfaced.  The sim was active, but when I clicked on Stone, the dog, both the sim and the dog showed a white box around the icon on the left - in other words, both look selected.  When I click on the horse, all three icons have a white box around them as if they are selected. 

As I click from one to another (in other words, changing which one - sim, horse, dog) is selected, the wishes change, but the lifetime wish doesn't - both animals and my sim show the pet pawprint and hovering over that brings up the text indicating that pets can't have LTW's - so my sim's LTW is gone, and he has that pawprint instead. 

While on pause, the activity queue shows the activity of my sim, regardless of who is active.  The icon in the upper left (where it shows the activities queued up) stays the same - it shows my sim's action to "talk to" the dog.  It shows that no matter which one i've tried to make active.  When I clicked on the horse, to make him active, and then clicked play, and then clicked on the hay and queued up the horse to eat the hay, the "talk to" action was cancelled (showed an X through the box) and the horse did go eat the hay.  But the action was also cancelled for my sim.

As I click around from sim to horse to dog, with the motives tab showing, the motives don't change if the game is paused, but do change (but with a delay) when the game is not paused.

Before the dog arrived, my sim had points in several skills, and my horse had racing skill, but after the dog arrived, the skills tab only shows the dog's skills (none) for all three.

The inventory tab for all three shows my sim's inventory.

The friends tab shows the sim and horse for all three, so it must be the dog's friend list.

This is the first time I've played in Appaloosa Plains and the first time I've played with Pets since I installed the last patch (1.50).  The other thing I did recently was install Union Cove.  When I started having this issue, I uninstalled Union Cove - I don't know why having that would matter, but I did see that there was some kind of issue with Union Cove related to Pets, so I uninstalled it.

If you have any ideas what might be causing this, please clue me in.

My first suggestion is to reset all three of the Sims.  Second, make a back up copy of the file using Save As and giving it a different file name.  Quit the game without saving (you have the back up) and restart.  If this doesn't fix the problem, try loading the previous save of your original file.  If it's before you adopted the dog, you can try adopting again and hope the same problem doesn't happen.

After you "save as" and quit, be sure to clear the caches from your Sims 3 directory.

I tried resetting everyone, saving to a new name, closing Sims 3, and clearing the caches.  When I went back in, I still had the problem.  So I did it all again, and went to an earlier save, before the dog was delivered.  Once the dog was delivered, same problem. 

I closed the game again, cleared the caches again, restarted the computer and tried again - same problem.  So I shut down and went to bed.  Tonight when I got home, I loaded that same file, and it plays fine. 

Restarting the computer should have cleared any memory issues the same as shutting down for overnight, so I don't know what's different now, but it's working.
