Video Game Developer Job
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:38:06 PM »
My sim is at home between terms, to earn a little money to pay for the next term.  Since she has 10 Nerd Influence, she was offered the Video Game Developer job and accepted it.

Today she was promoted from Level 1 to Level 2 (she had to start at level 1 because she hasn't graduated from university yet), and the promotion pop-up said because she was going to have to work long hours at her job, in addition to the usual promotion bonus, she'd also be given a discount at barista bars, so she could afford plenty of energy drinks!  ;D

I thought that was cute of them.

By the way, Social Group jobs do not get a bonus from University Degrees.   You will always start at level 1.

What degree did he have?

I had a Supermaxed athlete with level 9 MA skill and a deans list A degree in PE only able to get level 1 in that career.

Actually, my sims had a degree in communication with C .. So when she had come back home, she was able to accept or decline the job offer. Of course, that was on my purpose, so she started with level 3. Don't know why.

I've had a sim start the art appraiser career at level 3 but I have not been able to replicate it. I've tried buying honorary degrees in all majors in hopes of maybe starting at level 2 (honorary degrees gives you a B instead of an A) to see if you really could start at a higher level but I've had no such luck.

Does anyone know if you get any career rewards from being a game developer?

You get a  laptop early in the Engineer Branch and on the Game Artist side you get it when you merge back with the engineer branch for Lead Designer.

My sim received a laptop from the video game developer job and has the "work from home" option, but the carpool still comes every work day and my sim attempts to go to work.  Is there a way to cancel the carpool without manually doing it every time?  Otherwise, it gets annoying and kind of defeats the purpose of being able to save on commute time by working from home.  Thanks!

The Carpool is just one of those things the game does.  You can't cancel it.  But you can put a fence with a gate around your yard and lock the gate to everyone so she cancels the action on her own.  ;D

My sim was able to complete uni in one go as i skilled her as a teen.  She was able to gain level 10 nerd but on arriving home it asked to upload resume for science and medicine(was her degree).  She did not receive offer for video game developer and it said she would upin reaching level 10 nerd.  Did I do anything wrong?

It's because you did it while you were at Uni.  The only time it pops is at home.   Try having her do something nerdy and it might pop up.  Or just go to the business building and join the career.

I think I figured out how to start at a higher level than 1 for the social group jobs.

What you actually have to do is have a popular blog. A highly rated blog will allow you to start at a higher level than normal for a job without the need for university. However, this can also affect the social group jobs.

Hmm, the working from home option let my sims get paid but did not result in a promotion.  I guess it's not a good idea to work from home then til they reach the top of the career ladder.
