Gwenyth: "I'm not sure where you're at right now, but this doesn't have to be the end, you know. I mean, if you don't want it to be. William loves you, genuinely, I think. And well, I once did something similar to the man I love, but he forgave me. We spent our elder years together quite happily."

Vera: "Fire pretty."

Is this a Buffy reference I smell?  ;D

I say she focus in on her young boy and then worry about the dating scene once he hits teen years.  Love the usage of fire in this update  :=)

Explosive therapy eh?   Oh Gwneyth.  ::)   Typical daredevil. I absolutely love the pic with her basking in the glow of her own explosion. I would have loved to see her face though. Vera should focus on her son. DON'T LET BOYS WEAR YOU DOWN SWEETHEART!  SHOW SOME GIRL POWER!  SHOW WILLIE THAT HE NEEDS YOU MORE THAN YOU NEED HIM!  (Is it weird that I'm cheering for a pixilated character?)

I think they should try to work it out. He loves her, and it'll be easier on little Devon that way.

I have a soft spot for William, considering I have a file where he is an utterly devoted spouse heh, so I say she let's him stew for a while, then forgive him hehehe.

I'm glad everyone loved the "explosion therapy," and yes that most certainly was a Buffy reference! It's so wonderful to see all the different opinions on what you think should happen, but since I don't want to give anything away, I've made no individual replies.  :-X

The Protest

Gwenyth: "Before you make your decision, Vera, I think there's something down at city hall you need to see."

William: "Friends, Bridgeportians, Townies, lend me your ears!"

William: "I have done, yes, a truly terrible thing. The woman I love has left me."

William: "I betrayed her, but with your help I aim to win her back again! Please, join me this afternoon in protesting break ups of all kinds!"

William: "Thank you; thank you everyone for coming out here tonight."

William: "We are here today to protest a truly terrible thing: break ups. They hurt us all. You must persuade Vera likewise. You must persuade her to give me a second chance!"

Vera: "This protest is ridiculous, William! Bridgeport, has he even told you what he did, that cheating plumb-bob!?"

Vera: "He betrayed me, that mean-spirited son of a llama!"

Yet for all her ranting, more and more people seemed to be joining William's side.

Random Townie: "Come on, Vera! Don't end your marriage over this; give him a second chance!"

In the end, his protest was successful. Bridgeport seemed to agree she should give him another chance.

Vera couldn't help but join in the celebration; after all, it really was a well-staged protest. She had to respect that, at least.

William: "Oh Vera, you're here! You've come to take me back!"

Before she could say anything, he kissed her.

Her mind was reeling. She felt like she was being pulled in two different directions. She was still so attracted to him, and yet . . .

She pulled back and looked up at him, mind frozen in indecision.

What on earth was she supposed to do now?

William stages a formal protest to win back the woman he loves(?) but betrayed.  That is either brilliant, desperate, wonderfully romantic, or the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen.  I'm going with E) All of the above.

Vera's been trying to get down to the heart of the matter. But her will gets weak, and her thoughts seem to scatter. But I think it's about forgiveness. Forgiveness...Even if, even if, she don't love him anymore.

...I apologize, but only the smallest amount. That's been in my head since the last update. I'm with Peregrine, though.

A protest?!?!?!   :o  That is either insanely romantic, or incredibly DESPERATE.  Yup, definitely desperate.

Forgive him, but break up with the backstabbing fool.

(My own personal opinion: DIE, WILLIAM, DIE! Thank you. That will be all.)

Push him away and tell him I need more time to think about this.

Sorry for the long wait, and on cliff hanger. However, wait no longer!

Announcer Voice: And now, the dramatic conclusion . . .

Science

She pulled back, mind frozen in indecision.

Then the memory of his betrayal came flooding back with a rush.

Vera: "Just what do you think you're doing, William?"

William: "But, you came to my protest."

Vera: "No. I came to protest your protest! There's a considerable difference."

The next morning dawned, but for Vera it wasn't filled with the promise of new beginnings and better days.

It was filled with the ridiculous spectacle her broken little family had become: celebrating her son's child birthday, as if everything wasn't in shambles.

Vera: "Blow out the candles, Devon! William, stop laughing at the baby."

She watched the sparkles transform her little toddler into a child, and she longed for the days when there were still so many possibilities in front of her.

Devon could grow up to be anyone, do anything, but Vera was stuck being Vera.

So she did the only thing she knew to do.

She wanted to do dance; she wanted to forget for a moment and pretend that none of this had happened.

Then William showed up.

Vera: "You look ridiculous; what are you doing?"

William: "I'm dancing! Sometimes the male must do a flamboyant dance to attract the female."

Vera: "Who told you that?"

William: "Giles, of course."

Vera: "My brother may be a genius, but you do realize how profoundly stupid he is about love, right?"

William: "Well, . . . is it working?"

Vera thought about her broken family, but most of all, she thought about her son. He was young. He had endless possibilities. She didn't want him to grow up confused and hurting, like she had.

She looked at William. She didn't know if she could trust him.

Devon: "Uncle Giles, are mom and dad going to be okay?"

Giles: "Of course."

Devon: "How can you be so sure?"

Giles: "You see, when the male bird needs to attract a mate, he dances flamboyantly and--"

Devon: "Huh?"

Giles: "Erm, well, let me start over."

Giles: "It's called science."
