The Time ParadoxThe doors opened again and Gwenyth tumbled out into a familiar, dingy old cellar.
Gwenyth: "Ugh, so glad I don't have to invent in this musty old place anymore."
It made her appreciate her new, clean science laboratory all the more.
She'd had the strangest dream last night. She was re-living the past, when her marriage to Carmen had been going up in smoke.
Gwenyth tried to explain that it was just a misunderstanding, that she had never betrayed him.
Carmen wouldn't listen.
He was so angry!
Gwenyth awoke and, somehow, she knew that if she didn't do something, it was all going to be over.
They needed her help, which is why Gwenyth had leaped through the time machine, ignoring her mother's bewildered cries.
And now here she was, back in the old dojo. If only she knew
when she was.
Had she done her calculations correctly? Had she made it in time to save their marriage?
Gwenyth looked around nervously. The wedding arch, the cake--Gage was getting married tomorrow. She'd be cutting it close.
Gwenyth: "Carmen, can we--"
Carmen: "I told you, I want to be alone for a little while!"
She was too late. She'd already betrayed him. Great. Now if only there was something she could say to make him listen.
Something her past self wouldn't have known to say.
Gwenyth: "Wait, Carmen--it's . . . look at me. The tattoos? The dark hair?"
He paused.
Carmen: "What's going on?"
Gwenyth: "Can I tell you a little secret? It's me, from the future!"
Gwenyth: "I know how upset you are, how badly I hurt you, but I would do anything to keep us together. Including . . . including another dynasty, so we can be together again."
Carmen: "I . . . I don't understand. You would do another eight generations of this, for me?"
Gwenyth: "Yes, so. Please, just give her--me--another chance to make this right. Okay? Look, I know this is confusing, and I don't have much time."
Gwenyth: "Please, just don't break my heart."
Carmen: "Oh, Gwenyth!"
So she grabbed him, and he kissed her back, pulling her in tighter as the rain began to fall.
She heard footsteps, then, and voices. She pulled away reluctantly.
Gwenyth: "I can't let her--me--you know what I mean. I can't be seen! I have to leave!"
But it was too late.
Past Gwenyth: "Huh, so that's how I fix this."
