When I move my sim into an apartment building, instead of getting NPCs to live in the other rooms, they join my household and are controllable.  I thought roommates/apartment mates would live there but not be playable.  Any help on this matter?

Welcome to the forum.

Do you mean an apartment like in Bridgeport?  Or a dormitory while at University?

There is a known bug right now with roommates that saving while having roommates will cause them to join your household. 

Part of the reason for this is because a roommate does actually hold a household slot.   A household can only have 8 Sims and if you have 3 Sims in your family plus 5 roommates - you can't have a baby or anything else.

I mean using the new feature to turn a resident lot in the main town into an apartment building.  You do it by using the menu that is similar to choosing what type of community lot.

Did you place an apartment building on the lot or just turn a previously made lot into an apartment?  And you mean apartment like from Late Night not a dormitory from University Life right?


This sounds like the bug I explained two posts up.  The roommate bug gone wrong.

It's not an apartment from Late Night or a dorm.  I clicked on a house and changed the lot from resident home to resident apartment.

I understand that but it doesn't change that the roommate bug is the problem and there is currently no solution other than kicking them out of your house.

Isn't the roommate bug that roommates show up to houses but they aren't controllable?   My problem is that they are and I want them to be NPCs

How did you get the roommates into your new apartment lot?

There is a known bug right now with roommates that saving while having roommates will cause them to join your household. 

As I previously explained the bug is when they do become controllable.

I want to recreate your problem.  I went to Sunset Valley, made one of the condo houses into an apartment and I'm joining the game.   How did you get roommates?  No one has showed up for me so what was your next step?

About a day after I move in my sim people randomly arrive.

And they were instantly a part of your household or did it happen after you loaded the game again that they were there?

Two sim hours after my Sim moved into her apartment, her roommates arrived as did some of the neighbors.

As soon as they showed up on the lot they became part of the active household.

Do you use Mods? Did you quit the game between day one and day two?

I don't use mods or CC.  And I didn't quit the game or anything.
