You learn something new every day....
« on: March 06, 2013, 11:13:19 PM »
What (sim) stuff have you learnt?

I learnt that if you have over 100 saved games then the game 'drops' some off the list, in my case it was the most recent saved games.

Now I don't have 100 individual games, I have 4 save game files for each family (eg:Sunset 1, Sunset 2, Sunset 3, Sunset 4... thanks to twallan's Saver my game has four back up's at 15 minute intervals.) I tried to load my most recent game (a university play through) and it was gone... 'lost' if you will.  Until my bf discovered that the game has coding to stop loading games after 100 saved games....

weird.

You learn something new every day.

This will sound really dumb, but until I played our recent Baby Boomer challenge, I never knew that insect spawners spawned insects differently throughout the day.  I thought they were like rocks and seeds that showed up once a day and once you were done looking, there was no need to search any further that day.  No surprise, I didn't finish those insect collecting challenges.   ::)

I learnt that puppies teleport away from fire. No need to worry that your little bitty furry ones will catch fire, thank goodness.

I recently learned from my dynasty game if you put an urn on a display pedestal the ghosts never go back to it, I've reset them but when they come out again it's the same, I even took one with me to the spring festival as he showed up in the 'go here with' list ;D

But after a while they become too much hassle, sleeping on the beds, floating through occupied bathrooms and just scaring people so I've taken them off the pedestals now. It did have one advantage though, the rest of the house got so used to them there wasn't the "Eeek a ghost" every few minutes.

I learned ghosts can go through walls. No seriously: in my playtime, the ghosts always -- always use doors like a civilised being. I've never witnessed them going through a wall. So when I first heard it mentioned on here, I'm like "what are you on about?"

Still have yet to see it myself, but then I've only ever once kept the remains on a played property and have never sought to make a playable ghost.
