So I know you can read comic books, but is there an option for Sims to write their own?

Yes. On the computer, go to Writing and then "More." Hope that helps!

It's not showing up.  Do they have to a certain amount of skill points?

I have a level 9 writer who can't do it yet but I'm thinking it may be one of those things where the person needs another skill as well.  I'm testing it out to see if it's painting or street art.

It could be influence with a certain group you need to write them.

She's already got the Video Game Designer job so it's not the Nerds and they are the only ones that talk about Comic Books.

Hey I wrote comic books. My sim had the street art skill...Writing the comic books increases both writing and street art skills :)

Comics is on my list in my skill journal but it refuses to show up on the computer when I click on it.  I don't have a more so I don't know what level you need for each one.  I'll be looking into the game code shortly to find out the exact levels you need.

I was confused at first since I kept raising Street Art and the option wouldn't show up under Writing when I clicked the computer.  Then I realized that's not where it shows up.  It's a totally separate option from Writing called Write Comic.  Just click the computer, then click more, and the option should be there.  Apart from that, I'm not sure what skills, if any, restrict your ability to write them or not.

I found it, but it wasn't under writing.

I read, I think on SimsVIP, that Painting is required.

I think Sinnfinity explained where she found it:

I have a Sim that doesn't know Painting but can write comic books.   I don't know when she learned the ability because of the interaction's weird location.  I'll probably be throwing up a test Sim if I can't find it when I open up S3PE.

Edit: Found it once I thought of where to look - Comic books should be available for writing as soon as a writer has Writing 1 & either painting or street art 1.

    <kMinLevelForComicViaStreetArt value="1">
      <!--Required level in the Street Art skill to write a Comic book.-->
    </kMinLevelForComicViaStreetArt>
    <kMinLevelForComicViaPainting value="1">
      <!--Required level in the Painting skill to write a Comic book.-->
    <kLengthComicMin value="22">
      <!--Min length of a comic book.-->
    </kLengthComicMin>
    <kLengthComicMax value="100">
      <!--Max length of a comic book.-->
    </kLengthComicMax>
    <kRoyaltyComicMin value="48">
      <!--Min Royalty of a comic book.-->
    </kRoyaltyComicMin>
    <kRoyaltyComicMax value="120">
      <!--Max Royalty of a comic book.-->
    </kRoyaltyComicMax>
    <kMinLevelForComic value="1">
      <!--Required level in the Writing skill to write a Comic book.-->

Interesting note:   Children's books require level 4 painting and their Min/Max Royalties are 75/105 and Comic books are between 48 & 120.

Didn't see anyone mention this if they did then whoops but, Writing comics increase both street art and painting as does the sketch pad.
