Started a new sim last night, no skills or career, and got 6 credits each in 3 degrees, I am assuming based on traits (artistic for fine arts, comp whiz with technology, bookworm with science/medicine), and was awarded a partial scholarship ($1000/term).

Yes, the traits mentioned in Rica's first post contribute to your score on the SUAT, regardless of level in their related skills. Fresh Sims with a corresponding trait will get a higher score on that section of the aptitude test. My fresh-out-of-CAS Sims haven't gotten any scholarships yet though, since they've only had traits for one degree.

Fresh out of CAS - I took a Sim and had them take 1 class in town before doing the aptitude test and it got them enough points to get a scholarship.    Then they were able to take a second class for that skill in Univille!

I managed to take 6 fresh out of CAS sims with appropriate traits above.  Sent them all to get 1 point in each skill as mentioned above and all 6 of them managed to 18 credits towards their degree and two of them did well enough to get scholarships too.    I had them do traits only for their degrees but since some traits like Genius cover multiple it got them the points they needed for the scholarship.

Good to know! I was sending them as soon as the mascot dropped off the Welcome Kit, so they had no skills at all. The traits alone (without traits like Genius or Ambitious that cover multiple degrees) were getting my Sims high enough score to get 6 credits, but not high enough for any scholarships. It looks like that might only be the case for Sims with multiple traits that contribute to a degree, though.

For instance: Avant Garde, Artistic, Rebellious, Green Thumb, Schmoozer Sim fresh out of CAS got 6 credits in Fine Arts, but none in other degrees. Green Thumb is a Science trait and Schmoozer is a Communications trait, and though his scores were slightly higher in those subjects, he didn't have a high enough score to get credits. Avant Garde, Artistic, and Rebellious are all Fine Arts traits. I wonder if two degree-specific traits would be enough to trigger credits without skills or if it requires three?

Out of the 6 - the two that got scholarships were geniuses so that may be the only trait that really should have given them any points in anything else.

Some people are definitely experiencing bugs. I'm unable to go below a base score of 100 on any test, so that is the base when everything is working correctly.

Score modifiers:

27 points per skill level
39 points per career level
83 points per trait

On a fresh Sim, you get predictable scores using these numbers. Genius will give +83 points to all your scores, giving you a base of +183 or 1098 total points.

250 points for +6 credits toward a degree
350 points for +18 credits toward a degree

average score of 1200 for a $1000/term scholarship
average score of 1800 for a $2500/term scholarship

Taking the aptitude test after already finishing a term at the University gives buggy results. Also, the credits earned from the aptitude test did not go toward my Sim's degree. The Sim had 36/48 credits and got +18 for a tech scholarship. It's unclear if this busted the limit and caused it to bug, not giving the credits - or, you MUST take the aptitude test before enrolling or it does not count.

It's part of the University Welcome Kit you get from the mascot/buy mode. When you click on it, you can get freebies (I got a shirt and a pennant), and then take the test.

Side Note:

When I was choosing traits for my Sim (who is majoring in Science and Medicine), the Gatherer trait was suggested to help with her degree. Is this one that will influence the aptitude test?

According to the actual aptitude test - no.  And I could post the code to show it's not there either.   I think they mean that the gatherer trait helps with fishing and gardening since it helps them get better items.   With Green thumb & gatherer trait at max 10 gardening and the greenhouse supplies from the store I was able to plant normal/nice plants and they'd always be perfect.

It looks like the jobs that are helped by degrees are the base game jobs, and maybe the new ones with UL.

I think 1 skill point in most it should be enough to get a full scholar ship. Not sure having more skill points in skills makes a difference.

Welcome to the forum, Traver.   The degrees only help with the jobs listed in the first post.    The social group jobs don't get a bonus if you have a degree and neither do most other jobs.   So it's just base game and fortune teller that get anything special from going to Uni.

I started with 6 CAS sims with the right traits for each of the degrees and had them take classes to get 1 skill point in all the skills listed on the first post.   They all got 18 credits towards their degree but only two got scholarships because some of their traits also counted for other degrees.  You'd have to have skills in multiple categories to get the scholarship as there wasn't much more room to get more points in the categories for their current majors.
