Install TS3 to run this EP?
« on: March 01, 2013, 08:08:43 PM »
Hi there,

I'm not actually sure WHAT my problem is, so I'll try and give as much info as possible starting from the beginning...

I have TS3, World Adventures, Ambitions, Late Night, Generations, Seasons EPs plus Design & Tech, Fast Lane, Outdoor Living and Town Life stuff packs. On Tuesday I got the Pets EP for my birthday and tried to install it, but as my HD is partitioned and I'd installed on the C drive (only 40GB for system, etc) by mistake there was not enough space to install. So here is where my problems start...

TS3 was originally installed on my D drive, however, everything preceding this was installed on the D drive and all the games worked perfectly! I firstly tried to copy&paste all the game stuff to the D drive, which obviously didn't work, leading me to uninstall all the games, then try to reinstall them.

I spent an entire day reinstalling all the games (in the release date order) onto the D drive, then when I got to Pets it started to tell me there was a new patch for my custom content (though none was installed), and I installed all the patches and updates as they prompted. This included an update to Origin. I then started to install my custom content again, though I did not run the game.

Shortly after my PC froze and I had to manually restart it. After that game launcher started to tell me the EP was not compatible with the TS3 base game I had installed. I also noticed none of the EPs or the base game were showing as highlighted in the little icons at the bottom of the launcher and the version was back to 1.something. I checked in the program files and all the games were where they should be. I also noted that all the CC files (some 3,000) were corrupt and could not be read. So I went to uninstall the games again (assuming the game was corrupt from the crash) but they were nowhere to be found in Add/Remove Programs so I manually deleted all the games, then I uninstalled Origin.

So now I decided to install just TS3, Generations, Pets and Seasons. After installing TS3 and then Origin and the game launcher all onto the D drive, I ran the game to make sure it work (it does) but now I am trying to install Generations, everytime it initiates it comes back with the report that TS3 needs to be installed to run the EP. The game is also not showing in the Add/Remove programs list.

When I originally played TS3 it was always installed on the D drive so I can't see why this is an issue now? Other notes, I downloaded TS3 from origin and installed it firstly after I uninstalled the games as I couldn't find the disc, however when I tried to install further EPs it could not because it was not compatible with the base game. Also my HD is partitioned, so disc C and D are effectively the same, just with a wall.

If you need any more info I'll do my best. I'm not very techwise!

Thanks in advance for your help. :)

The base game not being compatible is a patching error that's well known, I used to get that every time that I patched up on my old machine, it seems to be a registry problem.

I would suggest manually uninstalling and then installing in order of release. It is not supposed to be necessary but that was the only way I could get my game to work. http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,4886.0.html

If that doesn't work then pop your head back in here and someone smarter than me may have another suggestion.

Kindest Regards
KJ

Welcome to our Forum, Genasai.

I agree with KJ that you should try manually uninstalling the game.  Sometimes you just can't get a clean uninstall using your computer's uninstall program.  Do let us know if it helps.

That's for your replies. Sorry my post is so long winded and confusing.

I have manually installed the game, but I'll do it again following the guide.

The error is exactly as follows:

The Sims 3 Generations - Install Wizard
This product requires an installed copy of The Sims 3. Please install The Sims 3 before installing this product.

The Sims 3 IS installed, I can play it... Something else to note is that when I reinstalled TS3 it did not ask for a serial key.
