Across all my Sims, the numerous times I have focused on collecting, and the many hours I have scoured the city one metal has always eluded me. Plutonium. Any info on the likelihood of it spawning and is the mine by the falls the only location?

I think the easiest option is to get a dog and have it's digging skill high.  Have it keep fetching metals and you'll eventually get it.  Or, you can do inventing and have your sim invent the underground scanner thing, it'll tell you if there are metals, gems, seeds, etc below an area and dig.  That's probably the slowest way to get it.

Sorry I can't be of more help but it's the only way I know of to get what you're looking for.

The invention your talking about doesn't tell you if anything is underground.  It just digs and you find whatever you find.  Unless you're talking about something different in the Console version.

Yes, I am.  There's a device you can invent and it scans underground where you want it to and it tells you what's in or around that area.  It will say something like metal, gem, seed, etc.

Does this invention come with the pets EP? I only ask because I don't have pets and don't plan on getting it until I'm on a PC. I don't see it as worthwhile to add more stuff when I can barely make a house big enough for 5 Sims.

You're welcome.  Sorry I couldn't help.  I assume that The Sims 3 and The Sims 3 Pets for console are very much the same in content and the stuff you can do except Pets obviously has pets that why I assumed you could have the subterranean detector which is the item I'm talking about.

I'm seeing all the difference between a console and PC game for the first time. Looking at this site is what really pushed me towards PC gaming. There is just so many things that the PC allows that the console never will.

Yes, I feel the same. I started playing the Sims on console but eventually bought the game to play on my Mac. I still play my PS3 game from time to time, though.
