Corruption, or incompatibility ... Maybe
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:08:27 PM »
I have been shopping for a new computer, bought a beauty, as it turns out possibly just in time. We had a light fixture blow in the garage that surged the whole house, fried the phone line, and possibly corrupted my old system (which was on a surge protected strip and powered off at the time, but is having issues since). After the surge the Sims profiles saved at that time now have serious bugs . 1) (profile A) No matter what household member you select the relationships are suck on one family member and the picture at the bottom stays that one family member, though the tab with sleep, hunger, social ect changes to whomever you select (I did not save, just exited and called it a dead profile, as it's not really playable). 2) (Profile B) un-cleanable counter, that is shown as in use by X household member even when that member is not on the home lot. It also cannot be replaced under build/buy.  3) (Profile B) Social worker will not leave after removing the horse no one would care for (all actions auto cancelled). 4) Evey time you exit it tells you the social worker is removing someone from your family are you sure you want to exit. All he does is stand on the lawn day and night. I created a new family (post surge) in Aurora Skies, no problems with any functionality, both pre-surge families are Sunset Valley.

I have set up my pretty new system, that unfortunately came with Windows 8 64 bit (currently I am running sims in compatibility mode trying to get my daughters game to play). I reinstalled all the games, stuff and store stuff (Aurora gave me a run for my money on the re-install). So I spend 3 hours testing the new system with the Aurora Skies family (in 64 bit none the less), no lag, no freezing, just beautiful crisp graphics, and lighting speed. My Daughters birthday was yesterday, and she is the big Sims fan so I did the big TA DA - Aurora Skies, happy b-day (it was part of her b-day gifts). Then spent 5 hours trying to get her family (profile B) to work properly, she is having every 64 bit issue I've seen crashing, freezing, lagging, crash to black screen. I have shut off DEP, and run it in compatibility mode with no luck, bitdefender is not on my system to begin with (though I did triple verify). After switching to compatibility mode (and making the other compatibility adjustments as recommended by  EA http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-3/FAQ-Game-Crashes-CTD/td-p/656 ), my AS family has started freezing, where it was not previously.

I have an old save of her game from 30 days ago on an external drive that was safely in a drawer at the time of the surge, but with the new patch, my new system and multitude of other buggy stuff I was wondering if those more tech savvy than I may have a clearer look. I don't want to delete a month of game play in a rollback to have the same issue. My AS Family is new, I'm not yest attached (Profile A) was mine. I followed the instructions for transferring to the letter, the only transferred content is Videos, screenshots & saves, the rest is all a brand new clean installs and downloads.

I am running Windows 8 - 64bit box
NVIDIA GTX 660Ti card
AMD FX-8120 Chipset on a Gigabyte GA-970A-D3
8GB Ram
1 TB drive
Base Game, WA, Gen, Amb, Pets, Seasons, Master Suite & Fast Lane Stuff
No Mods/ No Exchange Item/ only Store made items and worlds (Riverview, Lunar Lakes, Aurora Skies)
All Drivers, updates, and patches are current

I'm sorry if this is the wrong place for this, It didn't seem to really fit any one thread.
