Hi Spacdude,

Checking the review on NotebookCheck.net, the Acer Aspire V3-771G 17.3-inch Laptop doesn't look like it will perform that well except on low - medium settings rather than medium settings.

Hi Eric,

Welcome to the forum!! :)  It would depend on what configuration you're looking at, as it looks like it can use a range of processors. So, if we can find out what configuration you're looking at we can make a better recommendation.

Any of the choices will work, except the cheapest one. You'll want one with at least 8 GB memory.

I do want to note which ever configuration you choose, you'll want to make sure you're using the dedicated video card available.

Hi, I'm looking to buy a laptop soon and after looking all over I found one and I would like to see what your thoughts are on it. I'm hoping to play sims 3+ expansion packs, sims 4 and possibly simcity.

Its a Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition VN7-591G-74SK Gaming Laptop Intel Core i7 4710HQ (2.50GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M 2 GB GDDR5 15.6" Windows 8.1

I was looking for something that had dedicated memory and around a 1TB hard drive with some kind of SSD, that also wouldn't be to heavy or boxy looking like alienware. If you don't this is good enough could you recommend something similar around the same price . Thank you

Hi KMay,

The laptop should do just fine with all 3 games. And be able to play on high settings, thanks to the upper mid-range video card. Great Find!!

Hope this helps, and Welcome to the forum!! :)

What are some important things to look for in a monitor if I want to play on the highest settings? I know I'm looking for about 20" but I have no idea what else.

Hi Jamie,

The monitor doesn't really have anything to do with game settings. Other than you want a monitor that has a nice picture and that you can comfortable read the fonts.

If you can test the monitor out in-store before hand, that would be best. But if you can't, make sure there's a good return policy.

Hope this helps, :)

That definitely helps. Thanks, MrsFlynn! I wasn't sure if it needed to have anything specific but I'm glad that it doesn't. I'll probably get one on the cheaper end then.

Hey! Looking for some advice?

http://www.amazon.co.uk/HP-15-6-inch-Pavilion-Notebook-Midnight/dp/B00IG55RWC/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1421954558&sr=8-8&keywords=hp+pavilion+ram#productDetails

This is the laptop I currently own, and I am very interested in getting The Sims 3 and ALL expansions/stuff packs. Will it be up to the job? And if not, what can I do about it? Thanks for helping :)

Hi Drache,

Welcome to the Forum. Just had a look at it's specs. It may run the game, but it won't run it well. You may run into some crashing/lagging problems as well as other problems. Due to it not meeting the minimum processor requirements.

For Sims 3, and all eps and sps, you're looking at wanting at least a 2.4 ghz processor. And yours is only a 2.0 processor.

However, you're good on memory and video card is good.

There's not much that can be done as far as upgrading goes because it's a laptop.

Thanks for the welcome :)

Oh darn  :( What kind of other problems? I think I can handle a bit of lag if that's the worst to happen.. So it isn't possible to buy a new processor somewhere? I'm really NOT computer savvy  ::)

I honestly don't know what kind of other problems you may run into. It was just more of a warning that other problems might pop up, due to the slower processor.

As far as I know, you can't buy a new processor and pop in it a laptop, like you can a desktop. Laptops aren't meant to be all that upgradeable, with exception to adding more memory and maybe a new hard drive they aren't upgradeable.

I'd say though, if you're willing to give it a try, go ahead. If for some reason it isn't working for you. Uninstall it.

So I guess I'll just have to buy a desktop...

Sorry to be a pain, but would this one work?

I really am grateful for all your help  :)
