Maxine has performed 60 times - not much difference in tips between 50 and 60 so I will up her to 75-ish and see if I can get the tips up from 120 to around the 200 mark.  Today is play day, once I get groceries and take my son to school.

That's really interesting Pam that you've had problems hosting great parties. My Johnny B Goode character that I just finished up in the Centurian Solo Challenge ended up throwing a very large number of parties towards the end. Here's the interesting thing: He did nothing but play for tips. He would make the call from Central Park and host the party there for $250. He'd have 2 parties a day. He always called the maximum number of Sims (10). He'd hang up and just start playing for tips. His guests would arrive at the park and immediately start throwing money at him because they were a captive audience. They were there to see him anyway. It's a great strategy for guitar players. And those parties were always successful (Throw a Great Party moodlet).

In the Max skills challenge I did this exact same thing, throw a party in the park and then do nothing but play for tips. It works every time. :)

Also, as Metro mentioned, if they stop tipping you just stop playing and start again and the tips will be rolling in again.

My Sim never gets around to playing the guitar at a party.  When the party is at home one of the guests always picks up the guitar to start playing, my Sim has one in his inventory, but with the radio and TV going jeez all that noise makes me nuts!  >:(   Will have to try a party at the park!  ;D

I'm still trying to get this to work.  I'm working on the Rock Star LTW and my Sim also has the Party Animal trait.  The parties are always a huge success, but almost no tips.  I've tried parties at the park and at the beach, but nothing.  They just ignore him for the most part and dance with each other.  Even when he stops playing and then starts back up again, they don't give tips.  Just more dancing.  I also had his sister Sim come to the party and break up the dancing by introducing herself to the guest.  That didn't work either.  It really is frustrating.

Pam try this:

Get to Central Park right at 7am on a weekend. That's the earliest you can call for a party. Host the party there (obviously). When you hang up, immediately start playing for tips despite the fact that no one has shown up yet. See if that at least gives you a good initial round of tips when everyone shows up. They'll get bored and start dancing eventually — that's to be expected. But, they should show up and throw money at your Rock Star right away.

-----

EDIT: Ha ha. I just tested this technique and it totally flopped. It has worked before, but for this one test everyone showed up and either started talking or dancing. But, I cancelled the tip playing, started it again, and then everyone locked their attention on him for a good 2 Sim hours and he made around 5k. It does seem to vary quite a bit from session to session. And I'm sure some of it might be how the individual traits of the audience play into things — i.e. how long they'll stand there throwing money before moving onto something else.

I am just wondering if Parties have any good things apart from the moodlets and relationship boosts? Is that all they are really?

Pretty much. Why do you throw a party in real life? To socialize.

I know there are a few players who don't have much luck in throwing great parties without the Legendary Host reward (I'm looking at you, Pam), so if you're a challenge player, then brush up on those party skills because you'll need them in the Political "Traiter" Challenge.

Ha!  I even managed to have a lame party WITH the Legendary Host reward!  So there!!  ;D

One thing I use parties for is when I need my teenager to meet some boys.  She meets them at school, but has no relationship with them.  So then when she invites them over, they decline.  If the parent throws a party and invites a couple of boys over, she can interact with them enough to hopefully find a husband.  It's also a good way to stay in touch with family that has moved out.  I always invite all of the family back for birthdays so the next generations can know each other.

I always thought the parties was mostly a role playing element in Sims games. I never did it much because having all those Sims around making a mess and blocking the bathroom annoyed me.

Now I mostly use parties to make money. I have my Sim play for tips at his own parties, the guests make a nice captive audience. ;D

Okay, now that's just downright impolite for your guests. What do you think the Theatre is for on the weekends? Tsk, tsk. I would continue on and insult you more, PJ, except that I do the same thing. Oops!  ;D

Next B-Day Party My Legacy Family Have then I am throwing a party with Legendary Host, I will have it outside on the patio thing, I will also add some toilets outside! My House has three toilets, four baths/showers. The Plan for the evening, dance, ask all sims to dance, quit dancing, leave them too it. Near the end call them for food!  ;D

I'm great at parties!  I leave the tv's turned on, sprinklers on, etc. so the people I can't focus on can still go and do stuff.

She's performed compositions 77 times.  The amounts of the tips are currently $265 to $285 per individual tip.  And she's a level 10 guitarist now.

That's pretty good actually. You must really love that guitar skill. ;)
