Game saving, but not able to quit
« on: February 23, 2013, 11:16:01 PM »
I've had this problem for a little while now.  First, I notice when I use the launcher, it says the computer is unable to run scripts on this program, but otherwise the launcher seems to work ok.  This may be a separate issue than the next thing.

I can save the game just fine, but when I say "quit" it won't quit.  I seem to exit out of the game, but then everything is stuck.  I have to use the Windows task manager to get out of it, and each time it says that the Sims 3 (seasons) is not responding.  I have to force quit it.  It is always saved just fine when I go back in, but the not being able to really exit the game is getting annoying.

I thought it would be fixed when I uninstalled and reinstalled on my games when I added another EP, but it's still doing it.  I also thought it might be doing it because my Seasons disc is damaged, but it does it even if I am not using the disk to open the game.

Thoughts?

Does it only happen with one file or does it happen with a new game file, as well?

Seems not to matter if it is an old save file or a new game, as the first time it happened it was with a new game, and now it is doing on that save file, and also a totally different save file.

Are you getting any xcpt files in the Sims 3 folder?  Are you on a PC?  There is a program that reads those files and can tell you the reason for the crashing most of the time.

I just checked.  No xcpt files.

I have got them in the past though, and I know about the crash log analyzer and have even downloaded it, but the problem is I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to use it after I downloaded  it.    So if you've got tips on that, too, that would be great, though it may be a different problem.

Does the same thing happen when you use "Save and Quit"?  I'm guessing it does.

Hi Shibamistress,

We still even after many patches, get the javascript error while running the launcher. Not every time, but quite a few times. Down below is a quote from Hubby that explains what is happening with that. It does not hurt the playability of the game. Just more of an annoyance than anything.

Regarding the error message, the Launcher uses components from Internet Explorer to display the Welcome page and some of the other pages (such as the Game Update page). It doesn't matter what your default browser is on the system (i.e. Firefox, Chrome, Opera), it still uses Internet Explorer's "engine" to display items in the Windows version. I would assume it uses Safari (or, more appropriately, WebKit) on the Macintosh systems. Regardless the error is being generated by the Internet Explorer components and not by your current default browser. Hope that clears things up a little. :)

As for the actual error, I haven't dug into it, but I do know it shows up on both of my Windows 7 systems running IE 8 and IE 9, and on my Windows 8 test system which has IE 10. So, it's something that is happening across multiple versions of the browser including the two latest versions. I wouldn't be surprised if the error shows up in IE 6 and IE 7 on XP and Vista systems. I haven't seen any reports of the error showing up on Mac systems.

I've not been doing "save and quit" (I save separately, then quit separately) because I've read the save and quit is a little more likely to cause problems with the save file.  But when I play again I'll try and see if there is a difference.

And thanks, Mrs.Flynn, for the info. on the javascript thing.  I'll just ignore it then!

And i just tried it, and save and quit works  fine, but just quit does not.
