My sim was renting a house at university, and he wanted to ask his girlfriend to be his roommate. They had a full relationship bar. I tried getting their social interactions to 'friendly' like asking someone to move in, but it didn't work. I tried adding more bed spaces, but that didn't work either.
I got the option under the friendly interactions, once I had maxed friendship with my sims future girlfriend - it may have been there earlier, but I wasn't really looking out for it.  I was renting a one bedroom house at University, and successfully invited her to move in, so it's certainly possible.

I think there's some bugs with the roommate feature. I've had one just seem to move in/appear after I got married. I didn't mind too much, as the roommates are kind of cool, having an extra sim which you don't have to control is interesting.

But after loading up today, the sims become a controllable member of the house for no reason.  Hmm.. maybe an update will come to iron this out?

The moving in bug is mostly for people who don't have university.  The roommate feature wasn't supposed to be a part of the patch so a lot of it's gateways are based on University Life coding.

Yeah I heard that the bug mostly affected people who hadn't got the expansion. I must have just been a bit unlucky, though I've read a couple of others who it happened to on the official forums.

Question please about roomates?
« Reply #33 on: March 18, 2013, 05:20:09 PM »
Hi all,

I would just like to know how do you "get rid of" a roomate that's in your house?  Does it matter if they are a romantic interest or a fiance?  Also, if another sim asks me to move in with them and I accept what happens to my house and all my household funds and stuff and would that sim take control of me after I do move in my house?

I guess if I wanted to ask another sim to move in with me as another roomate, I would have to make sure I had a house with an extra bedroom because they would need a place to sleep, is that correct?

Thanks again for your help. :)

Moving in together, and ask to be room-mates are different. If you want to get rid of your room-mate, click on them, and then select 'dismiss'. To stop more coming you will need to use your smart phone to disable room-mate services (under real estate). It won't affect your relationship with that sim. If another sim asks you to move in with them, you will still get the moving screen, and it will switch active households if you accept.

There is already a topic about roommates so I'm going to merge them together.

I think if you use the phone to disable roommate services existing roommates will depart. At least that happened when I did it.

When she moved in, did she move-in move in (did you become her Watcher)?

I'm trying to get my bf to move in with my Sim at Uni.  No joy so far, and he doesn't show up when she invites him to visit between terms.  :-\

I have a question about roommates. My guy has been at university going on his second term, and he decided to get a girl roommate, and he did. She's a beautiful sim! My guy fell in love with her, asked her to be his gf, she said yes. I'm having issues with them being able to get married, they are also not able to try for baby. Are they not allowed to do those things at University? I thought it was like WA worlds!

University is pretty relaxed--no marriage or children. You can invite her over when you've finished the term, and you'll be able to ask to move in/propose/have kids.

Thanks! I can see why no kids, the schedule would be too hectic, but why no marriages? I don't get that one!

I don't even have University installed, yet I've gotten two different guys show up as roomies. So if I'm reading this right, the random roomies isn't a bug but a new feature in the latest patch? Now I feel bad for deleting one of them off my lot before checking... I'll just chalk that one up to a "magical accident". The other guy just got himself a tiny little house on our lot, due to him not creeping me out.

Since I had some issues with roommates and have seen some questions answered in random places, I'm going to summarize what I know so far:

In Homeworld
1. Residential Lots now have a drop down similar to Community lots and you can choose regular or Apartment type residential lot.

2.  For roommates, go to the Real Estate options on your phone and there's a new radial regarding roommates.  If you're getting roommates and don't want them, disable the service.

3.  If you have a roommate you want to get rid of, simply click on them and use the Dismiss Roommate under the Roommate... option.  This also works in the University world.

4.  New roommates always show up the next day at 9:00 a.m.

5.  Click on a bed to assign ownership of the bed to anyone who lives on the property.

6.  Doors have new locking features which allow specific sims to be assigned to a door.

I've only played with roommates in the University world so far but I'm going to be trying it out in my homeworld soon.  I'll post more if I see anything new to add.

Roommates are fun, but can also be frustrating.

I made room in my home for roommates, and enjoyed the revenue they provided every week in rent. The problem I have is they keep changing over from roommate to family member, in that they become controllable. I have all the expansions, but 0 mods or cc, other then a few store items.

Also, if you have a teen and the parents are given a 'Free Vacation', when the parents leave, so too do all the roommates. That's fine and not a problem. However when the parents and roommates return, ALL the roommates are now part of your family and completely controllable. Now you have to kick them all out and find new roommates.  :'(

Also, from what I can determine so far, if a building is designated as Apartments, you can't use the roommate service if you live there.  Looks like that's only available if you own the property.
