I got Roommates in my household. They act like live in people, going on with their lives.
They also do react to babies and toddlers needs, which is awesome!   ::)
Another awesome fact is that you get "Rent" every week.
More people= more rent.  8)

You can make some rooms and Set ownership for them so they dont sleep the wrong places  ;D

Also Roommates are also available in normal non university households.

Is there any way to stop roommates from moving in in the first place?

Nope, Chuckles. If you want to live alone (in peace) you should rent the house instead living in dormitory, fraternities or sororities.

When I designate a residential lot an 'apartment' the roomies automatically move in. I was trying to make it so that I could have houses for rent in my home town.

I was reading some of the more technical forums and it has been said by several SimGurus that roommates weren't supposed to be a part of the patch.  They were only supposed to be a part of the expansion.  So if you have roommates and you don't have University Life - it could cause some issues.  Like the one where roommates automatically become part of the family or wedding guests suddenly becoming part of the family.

Have you seen this option? I was kinda curious what this thing will do.
Can someone try this and tell us?
It's under Real Estate and Travel service and there are several option things.

Look, especially when the option have something like this:

Oh, by the way the house that my sims live in is normal one.

Ah yes, I see that in a normal house, but not in an apartment lot. I didn't play long enough to see if the sims came back after being dismissed. I sure wish that there was a way to turn them off!

EDIT: Yup - they all came back :( I'm definitely going to want a cheat or an option to turn them off! I only wanted my sims to be able to rent the house instead of buying it - not have half a dozen roommates!

And so I travel back to University and go directly into Edit Town, I was curious what kind of lot type that they have so they can do the rent thing. I was surprise, it's only regular residental lot! Hmm, I take it's have something to do with some special code that placed at University? Or it's have something to do with buydebug things? I don't know but just wonder.

Other than that when I see Fraternity, Dormitory and Sorority it's marked as community though.
It's strange though when you at University you can rent at peace. Hmm...

How do you ask someone to be your roommate? Can you do that at university?

In my experience (CMIIW) you can do this when you rent your own house while in University. The option itself will be appear when you interact with other Sims, I believe it's need a decent relationship to make it appear and you can ask them to be a roomate :)

My sim was renting a house at university, and he wanted to ask his girlfriend to be his roommate. They had a full relationship bar. I tried getting their social interactions to 'friendly' like asking someone to move in, but it didn't work. I tried adding more bed spaces, but that didn't work either.

At university I dismissed one of the 8 roommates that are given, and was able to ask someone to be a roommate. This was while in one of the dorms.
From the moment I fell down that rabbit hole I've been told what I must do and who I must be. I've been shrunk, stretched, scratched and stuffed into a teapot. I've been accused of being Alice, and of not being Alice, but this is my dream. I'll decide where it goes from here.

I think there's some bugs with the roommate feature. I've had one just seem to move in/appear after I got married. I didn't mind too much, as the roommates are kind of cool, having an extra sim which you don't have to control is interesting.

But after loading up today, the sims become a controllable member of the house for no reason.  Hmm.. maybe an update will come to iron this out?
