Second story on a house
« on: February 20, 2013, 10:57:35 AM »
Ok, whenever I try to build a second storey on my house in Moonlight Falls, the game fails to save and I'mm back to an earlier save.
This has happened on numerous occasions now and I wonder what I'm doing wrong?

I'm using the big space ( cannot remember the address off the top of my head :-[) not far from Moonlight Point. I usually build a bungalow to begin with, then when I have simoleons, I pop stairs and a second floor, windows, doors, wall paint and masonry cladding, carpets and then try and save and that;s when it all goes pear-shaped and doesn't save.

help  :'(

This is actually a common bug/glitch that has been happening since Seasons came out.

If this is not a challenge or dynasty file,  build the house - save the household to the house bin in Edit Town.   Delete the lot and replace the house.   The household will lose all of it's wishes but you should be able to save after that.

Not if you save the household and house to the bin before bulldozing the lot.

It may be too late, but I was having the same problem too.

First I tried turning off the Christmas lights (as was suggested). That didn't work.

After trying everything I could think of, one thing finally worked. I had been using one of the custom roofs with auto-roof turned off. So I turned auto roof back on and it saved. Give it a try if it's not too late.

Turning the rain off at the start of a file worked for me - apparently the game sometimes registers puddles/raindrops as still existing on a spot where they no longer appear, and therefore won't let us build there.

If this is not a challenge or dynasty file

Hi me again. Sorry, what if it is a dynasty/challenge/legacy house?  I'm actually having trouble building anything in Sunset Valley. My sim has met and married poor old put upon Christopher Steele and when I try to build any type of foundation/wall/ house it wont save!

A dynasty/challenge/legacy house refers to houses being built while you are playing a dynasty, challenge or legacy.   The rules for them sometimes forbid the use of Edit Town which is why it was mentioned.

Yes I understand that, but in order to save any type of building with my first time dynasty sim, I had to build the house, edit town ,save copy, bulldoze, put copy back and now all is well, except of course that my couple have lost their just married loved up moodlets and so I'm annoyed. Do I have to start again? I couldn't even save with one piece of wall.

If it's a dynasty file, you're not allowed to go into Edit Town without permission from the challenge team so that means you failed and should start over again anyway.

My suggestion would be to start over and turn off rain since it keeps affecting you.

;D success. I turned the rain off and Apple and Christopher now have a small one storeyed house. I'm guessing it may have to stay one storey, but at least they have a roof over their heads  :-*

thanks to all for suggestions and remedies  ;D :-*
