Any chance the error you are receiving says something along the lines of the installed game not being able to be determined? I ask because that is the same error I was getting when I tried to install the superpatch. If that is the error, right click on the patch installer and select "run as administrator".  I am running Windows 7 and for some reason even though I have the only administrator account on my computer, I still have to run certain programs by selecting that option. This superpatch was one of them. Once I ran it that way it installed perfectly. Also make sure you don't have Origin or the launcher running. Sorry if I am telling you something you already know with that last bit, but I had never used the superpatch before and wasn't exactly clear on that myself, lol.

I'm confused - I tried to patch yesterday using the launcher and got the 'invalid file found' error same as everyone else, but now on the official forum there is a message saying the problem has been fixed and to try again. However, when I do I get the same error! Is it just me, or did their 'fix' not actually work?

You're not the only one. I saw the message on twitter last night, so thought I'd try again this morning. Just got the same message pop up :(

Well, since my last post, my sister finally got all of her games uninstalled.  She installed the base game, started it and it ran fine.  All she is going to do is just put in the base game and a choice few of the EP's.  When she downloaded WA and tried to start the game, she got the notice about a patch, she installed that and it was a small one, then it went into installing the big superpatch and now WA doesn't start at all.  Isn't the superpatch a large patch with all of the smaller patches of all of the EP's up until now?  If that is the case, what about people that just want a select few games and launcher will not let her continue without patching with that big patch.  The patch starts at 1.00 to 1.50.  When she starts WA now, it gets an error saying, "error in data upload, please see log for details".  She is not a happy camper right now.

Salty - there are patches for all expansions & stuff packs up to Generations that have to be installed that won't be installed unless you load up the game in between each installation of the expansions and stuff packs.  They aren't included in the SuperPatch because they were how EA chose to patch to earlier expansions prior to just doing all the changes to the base game.   The SuperPatch only covers all patches done to the base game.

If you guys are still getting the message, then I would almost suggest downloading the SuperPatch a way that doesn't include your launcher.   I would also suggest making sure your Origin is up to date.  There was a recent patch up in the last 2 weeks or so.   It's your choice to download the superpatch but it's the same one that's coming through the launcher right now.

Yeah I'm getting fed up with the error message, my plan is to use the SuperPatch when I get home from work.

That is what she did.  She uninstalled everything.  Not sure if she installed the patch first and then WA or the other way around.  Does that make a difference?  Just trying to figure out what "error in data upload" means.

I am having an option I never saw before to "Run as Administrator." Is that what I need to do? Re-install the SuperPatch while running as Administrator? By the way, thanks Jaymi. No, my error said something about "an error occurred at startup" and then when I tried to bypass the launcher I got one saying "service initialisation failed (0x0175dcbb)".

EDIT: I went to where I downloaded the SuperPatch on my computer and tried to "Run as Administrator." My game is still giving me the same error message. This is going to become very obnoxious very quickly.

Ricalynn.  After she installed WA and tried to install a couple of other EP, she did not get anymore notices of patches.  I still thought that is what the superpatch was, all patch updates until now.  That is why it is so big.  I don't know, she is really upset and we preordered UN too.  She has no files left of sims  and all save games are gone.  She has been playing this game since sims1 and I am going to get her game working, if it kills me, lol. :)

I've tried both the normal patch and the SuperPatch and neither have worked. I got the invalid file for both.  :-\

I managed to get the SuperPatch installed yesterday, after having initially tried the incremental version and having the same issues that many others are reporting.  I also found that once it downloaded, I need to run it as administrator, and bypass warnings from my Norton security software.

I still thought that is what the superpatch was, all patch updates until now.  That is why it is so big.

It is all of the patches to the base game.  Some of the earlier EPs and SPs also had individual patches.

When I recently uninstalled and reinstalled everything, I found this Patch Downloader to be very helpful.  Since yesterday, it has been updated to include base game patch 1.50.

I've had problems with this patch, but I'll tell you all what I've done. I have all the expansion and stuff packs and I unstalled them all. Then I started to install them again, starting with the base game (of course). When I attempted to install WA, it was unable to update. After uninstalling and reinstalling the base game, I decided to try installing 70's 80's and 90's stuff pack after the base game. I opened the launcher, and was able to be patched up (I saw the uni icon there). I've since gone back to installing the packs in order from WA and it's worked. I'm just about to the test the game. So anyone having problems can try that.

What if you don't have 70s, 80s & 90s?

I'm now wondering if it is possible to un-patch. Sure, I was looking forward to playing my Dynasties with no problems but if I could just get in the game to take screenshots for right now, I would be happy.

I was able to patch with the Superpatch, using the SimsVIP link.  What I did was empty the Mods folder, then log on to my computer as the administrator account and download the patch.  I do not use the computer under the Administrator account * so I did have to switch to it to make the patch work.  I wish I had more to offer to those who are having problems but that's all I did and the game works.

*For safety of your computer and information in it, you shouldn't use the Administrator account all the time.  There should be one Admin account and then the other accounts are the ones you should use for everyday stuff - including the Sims.  PSA over.*

Tried this too and when I tried to download 70's 80's and 90's, would not install game without putting the update in.  Could not bypass it at all.   All I have installed is the base game.  I would think that EA is going to find a solution to this before UN comes out.

What if you don't have 70s, 80s & 90s?

I'm guessing you just start with the most recent pack you've got, like Seasons or Supernatural for example.
