Another new option that I've noticed on doors and gates:

Excuse the editing as there were story spoilers.

You mean next time, Pam doesn't have to install 5 doors to let people out onto the patio to paint/sculpt?

This is time for a happy dance.

A SuperPatch that doesn't require the last update.  A SuperPatch is what your computer downloads when you patch for the first time after a reinstall.  It covers every patch available for the base game.  It does not cover the old patches done to the expansions/ stuff packs up until generations.

@pally - turning off rain in a new file will actually take care of half the building problems.

How to turn off rain? Plus I don't want to start a new file. But I guess this is getting off topic, sorry.

With the new patch, your Sim can dumpster dive and get furniture and other stuff. Mine picked up tiberium (the kind that grows) and a termite.

Because you also can find furniture, though, you need to look in family inventory.

Small detail, but this patch also reorganizes your phone menu into more logical categories - an example is that you access the ringtone and the option to un/silence your phone in the same submenu (quit work/retire/unpaid vacation/fake sick is another submenu).

For those that didn't know it was coming.  One of the things that went live today in the patch is being able to set bed ownership.

Wow, I want this patch just for those two options, especially the doors. Half of my Dynasty setup is two doors to the same bedroom, because one detours through an immortal's skilling room. Have to probably wait until tomorrow though, it's 9:30 PM. :(

I'm happy about the dumpster diving but where are those dumpsters located anyway?  :-\

I think there's one at the diner in SV (not the Bistro, the other one).

It depends which town you're in, but you can generally find them at the restaurants or criminal hideouts. You can also find them in the "Lawn ornaments" category in buy mode.

SimsVIP has compiled a list of things that came in the patch yesterday.

http://simsvip.com/2013/02/19/sims-3-patch-1-50-new-features-options/#more-21289

The two new deaths are available for making ghosts.  Seven new patterns and three new terrain paints were also added.  Not to mention three more options of gifts to send to your online friends!

There has been one bug report that I'm aware of.   Elder sims using a cane can sometimes come out looking like oompa loompas.

Twallan found out that the photo booth bug is fixed even if it's not mentioned.   Two Sims who go into the photo booth should no longer come out in a relationship.

I'm glad that they have decided to fix the door flip thing.  It always reminded me of Zoolander, and how he can't turn left, so he has to do a full spin to get anywhere  :D

Compared to the last few patches, I'm really pleased with what they've done.  I think there's a dumpster around the theatre somewhere - but I may be mistaken.

If you have Ambitions, you can find a dumpster at the junkyard.

I'm on cloud nine. I patched up last night, and played two whole sim days without a single date phone call!  I am so excited by this that normally I would use all caps and extra exclamation points. Feel free to imagine them. (The last sim day before patching, with 4 YA-and-over sims in the house, I think I got about 13 date phone calls, including 3 from the same guy.)

Also, all but one of my OmniPlant boxes went away. I wonder why that one is still there? But the person who got stuck with it had 15 of them, so if that's what the patch can do for me I'll take it.

SimGuruGraham gave a clarification on some of the fog emitter changes over on twallan's website.   This change is important for some of our builders.

Quote
Are people still confused about the changes made to the fog emitter? I'll attempt to clarify...

The original problem with the fog emitter was caused because the object was exclusive to Ambitions, and was moved from Ambitions to the base game so that all players could use it without having Ambitions installed. The fog emitter was never intended to be used in the way that the community did (creatively spawning any FX on a lot), so the engineer that moved it wasn't aware that it'd be important to preserve any versions of the object pre-placed on lots. None of our designs mentioned it, and from our perspective fog emitters were always placed by code related to specific game play features, not pre-placed on lots.

Due to this, when 1.42 was released any of the Ambitions fog emitters that players had placed on lots disappeared and no longer played their FX. As far as the game was concerned, the Ambitions fog emitter simply no longer existed. 1.42 also came with the new base game fog emitter that everyone has access to no matter which expansions are installed.

If you've placed a fog emitter from buydebug on a lot since 1.42 came out, this update doesn't affect you at all. The base game fog emitter is still there, and still fully functional.

If you had used a lot with the Ambitions fog emitter since 1.42 was released, you would have lost those FX. You can now fix this by redownloading/reinstalling that lot. Any lot that's on the exchange or saved with an Ambitions fog emitter on it will now properly transition the object from the Ambitions fog emitter to the base game fog emitter (as well as preserving the FX that were set to play on it) when that lot is placed back in the world. Thus... this issue only affected you if you had been playing after installing 1.42 with a lot you created or downloaded that had an Ambitions fog emitter built into it.

That's hard to boil down into a short bullet point in a patch note =) If you have any lingering questions about it, feel free to ping me on twitter - @SimGuruGraham

If you try the superpatch, does that mess with the changes that came to non-basegame stuff?

Because my ghost hunter's first Ghostly Presence job didn't work... So it's that, or it will only work if I restart her career (which is a risky gambit), or it'll only work on a new file (which is just very sad)
