Wow, what a crazy week! But before I tell you what happened, I guess I should introduce myself. My name is Ariwan Fable and I can assure you that I’m not insane. Why do you need my assurance you ask? Well, because I am different... special even.

The reader lifts her over-plucked eyebrow.

Don’t think I didn’t notice you raise your eyebrow. You can smirk all you want, I know you don’t believe me now but one day you will. Just don’t let my ordinary, girl next-door, looks fool you.

That’s enough mystery and intrigue to get you salivating. I don’t want to overload you and ruin your appetite now do I?

So, on with the story!

Once upon a Fable... haha, I crack myself up, get it?

The reader returns a blank stare.

No? Well, I never said I was funny... just special.

—Yeah, special in the head more like!

Moving swiftly on then. My first day in Twinbrook was, I have to admit, a little bit depressing at times. It was enough to maybe reconsider the whole idea; pack what little belongs I had back up and slink back to where I came from. But I’m glad I stuck it out, as little by little, things began to improve.

My first decision was to buy a large piece of fallow land that had been demolished and vacated years ago. Patches of struggling yellow grass indicated where the old building foundations had been. The lawn would have to be re-laid yet looked fertile enough that I could perhaps start a vegetable garden right away.

The purchase pretty much wiped me out financially but it was all I could afford. Even the smallest shack in this soggy town would over-stretch my meagre stash... a barren plot next to an incredibly busy traffic route would have to do. I saw it as a long-term investment anyway.

Later that day, after a quick survey of my land, I walked into town. I let my feet lead me, and I wandered around aimlessly trying to come up with a plan. I had enough money to buy a few apples to keep my hunger at bay and eventually found myself outside the library.

It was here, on the steps of the library, where I met a potential.

—Wait. What’s a potential?

Oh, so you have been paying attention, I thought you'd nodded off at one point. A potential is someone who possesses, what I consider, all the right and necessary “stuff”. Like the right age and appropriate characteristics (not to mention financial means) that would help me succeed in fulfilling my plan. And they would have to join me willingly and without any knowledge of what I was scheming.

—And, let me get this straight, you’re not going to tell me either what your plan is?

Bingo! Where would the fun in that be? Now that we have that established may I continue?

The reader nods.

OK, so yeah I met a potential: Goodwin Goode. He seemed nice, good even, much like his namesake. He bragged about being brave and how much of a great kisser he is (he got extra brownie points for that trait!). I do admit to being attracted to him, but his friend, who I could just tell wasn't the happiest bunny in the box, kept on giving me the stink-eye which was slightly worrying. I chatted with Goodwin a little longer and arranged to call him for a more private talk the next day. I didn't want to cause too much suspicion and resisted the urge to rush things along.

The library was getting a little overcrowded and noisy which was preventing me from getting any sleep so I decided to go for another wander. I found a quiet bench where I had a quick snack and tried not to breathe through my nose. It was a low point for sure; I hadn't really accomplished anything of significance that day. Although I do recall, the apple I had was super tasty!

I was lucky enough to find myself a job that evening too, which surprised even me. Things were looking up! Now all I needed was a temporary place to rest my bones. I considered staying in the public loos in the park but I couldn't get over the disgusting stench.

However, would you believe me if I told you I found the perfect spot anyway? I didn’t even need to break in. I was so sure that sirens were going to start walling as soon as I entered the fire station and that I’d be arrested, but it was completely deserted! I was able to grab a shower, have some supper and get into my pjs without anyone turning up. I even had some fun sliding down a fireman’s pole!

So, all in all my first day turned out ok. Although I do have some serious reservations about the fire service in this town... remind me to buy my own fire-extinguisher.

—But wait, is that the end?

The end? Of course not. Have patience fair reader, the story is far from over!

I hope you liked and enjoyed the first installment - this is the first time I've ever done anything like this! :)

I hope you’re sitting comfortably, 'cause I’m back with the next installment.

The next couple of days I spent mostly at my new job... You should see what they have me wearing! I told you about what career path I chose right?

The reader shakes her head.

Well, I decided what with my love of food and highly refined palette to try and get a job at the little bistro in town. They took one look at me and employed me right away! Unfortunately though, I’m stuck washing pots and pans. But I have tried to sneak in some cooking practice when Julienne, my boss, isn't looking.

One day I’ll be running that place; there’s no two ways about it, I’m going to be a celebrated 5-star chef!

Julienne seems nice enough, she even asked me to work some overtime which I was happy to do; I was dreading going home and every little simoleon helps at this stage.

Oh, I should also mention while on my break I called Goodwin, but he wouldn't take my call. Said I had to call back in a few hours - pfft! Maybe he’s just not that interested in me or Sinbad had warned him off?

—Or he was just busy.

Perhaps. He was rather rude though. It sucks that he’s the only potential I've met so far, so I’ll have to keep trying to win him over.

It was a mild evening when I finished work and I was tired, cranky and starving. Ironic, right? I work in a restaurant filled with the most amazing dishes and yet I'm unable to sneak a few morsels to satisfy my grumbling belly. Anyway I shuffled myself off to the 24 hour grocery store, and yep, you guessed it, bought me some tasty apples. If I’m not careful I’ll start peeing some home-grown apple juice soon.

Finally it was time to grab a taxi home. Can you believe they don’t even charge you? Maybe it comes out of our taxes...

Once home I stood on the pavement and sighed. The house, if you can call it that, was horrible. Yes, it had four walls and a roof but it was so small and had no proper foundations. The exterior walls weren't even painted or treated – I’d have to get that done soon otherwise I’d have rising damp and rot what with living so close to the river.

I do have to give credit to the contractor though; the walls were straight and not higgledy-piggledy and he’d left the inside clean and tidy.

After a brief moment I crossed the threshold. In spite of everything I smiled; I was a homeowner now. Even with its minor faults, rough wooden flooring and lack of fixtures and fittings... it was all mine.

The silence was soon broken by the sound of my bum ringing.

—Your bum?

Hehe, yeah, I keep my phone in my back pocket. It seemed someone must have been paying attention to my culinary skills at the bistro because I was given the opportunity to enter a cooking competition. I asked if they were joking as I looked around my empty house, I didn't even own a spoon let alone a kitchen to cook in!

—But you accepted the challenge anyway?

I most certainly did! I couldn’t give up an opportunity like that. I guess it’s the ambitious streak in me. I was determined to find a way to not only improve my cooking skill and to find somewhere to cook too so that I would be victorious!

As luck would have it, I found a way the next day in the form of shiny uncut sunstone! I've taken to exploring the town in the morning; searching for seeds before my shift, and close to the library it was just sitting there nestled in the dewy grass. With a quick glance around to make sure no one was watching, I scooped up the precious rock and ran as fast as I could to the consignment store.

I was out of breath and disheveled when I arrived, which didn't help one little bit as I tried to explain breathlessly to the clerk what had happened. I asked, no pleaded with her to buy it from me, explaining how I desperately needed the money. However her poker-face showed no trace of brokering a deal. She must have thought I’d stolen it and didn't want any part of my alleged petty-theft.

Upon reflection though, it couldn't have worked out better; I found something a lot more valuable than a stone that day, as you shall soon find out.

—Ooooh, cliff-hanger!

Thanks for the responses and encouragement - I really appreciate it!  ;D

Is Ariwan's hair custom content or does it come with a Sims 3 pack?
Also, I love that sofa!

Ariwan's hair comes with...Late Night or Showtime I think? Not sure, but it's an expansion pack. It's also under the hairs with accessories rather than the other stuff.

Late Night, yep.

This is a great start! The story is really well written, and I like the unique style.

I am trying to appreciate your good taste rather than be fiercely jealous that you're after Goodwin. He's mine, I tell you, mine! I mean...he's a really Goode choice. Ack! Again with the puns! I can't help myself. They're just too...there.

Ladyaya and Ombradellarosa are right about the hair :) But the sofa, iirc, is CC though.

Thanks! I really do appreciate the feedback - it's definitely nerve-wracking posting my writing!

...And don't worry Goodwin's all yours lol! The little twerp kept refusing all of Ariwan's calls (she made at least three that I can remember) - so to the curb with him! :D

And sorry for the wait - haven't had the chance to write up the next part till now. Enjoy! :)

-----

—So, what happened? Hurry up, sit down and tell me!

Sheesh, you’re an eager little beaver today aren’t you?

The reader bounces up and down with anticipation.

Ha, wouldn’t it be just awful if I prolonged telling you? Torture your curiosity a bit? But I won’t. I’m not that cruel and I fear your patience is wearing thin. Now, prepare yourself, this is where I’m bound to get all girly, I may even squeal with delight!

So, my original plan was to grab the first potential that I found and to quickly put him to work on all the little mundane tasks I needed to complete, but the high and mighty Mr. Goode wouldn't take my calls and kept fobbing me off. To hell with him I said, he obviously didn't know who he was messing with! A girl like me ain't gonna put up with those sorts of mind games I tell ya and I was sure I could find some other lacky to do my bidding in time! But this was a sure sign that I was gaining attention down-below; I could tell those pesky fates had started to do what they're best at and had begun to meddle and complicate my life. I’m not used to them interfering but this one time, in hindsight, I forgave them.

After the wicked sales-woman told me to shoo and to stop pestering her about the sunstone I'd found I thought I may as well browse the store for some cheap knick-knacks to fill my not so homely shack. I found something to fill my soul instead.

My heart stuttered to life. It pounded so hard against my chest I feared it would burst though and make a live appearance, complete with a jaunty dance routine, right there in the store.

Could this be real? I was not expecting this, didn’t plan for it or desire it... but now that I had it I didn’t want to let the feeling out of my grasp.

I sucked in small shallow gasps of air in attempt to steady my heart. A curious sensation drifted up through my feet and legs; I was as light as the air around me. I glided over towards the cause of all these exciting and yet bizarre human responses.

I don’t remember what I said, it’s all a little hazy, I just know that in his presence the rest of the world faded away and became muted. I was in love.

—Well aren't you going to tell us his name?

Ah, sweet Justin Kayes. Such a pretty name... Just-in time too! He’s such a sweety-pie and a bit of a goof ball too. But he’s my goof ball.

This time I didn't take any chances; there was no time to take things slow... Justin was going to be mine, and of course it helped that his feelings were mutual too.

You should have seen us; it was quite sickening and revolting... so loved up, finishing each other’s sentences and generally just mooning over and touching each other.

It was impossible, but I had found my soul mate.

I had previously dismissed the idea of twined souls as pure folly. Ridiculous humans trying to be a part of something greater than themselves; the insane desire to not be alone in this world, to be connected, always, to another being who would not only understand and love your most intimate inner workings but complete you in such a way that before you didn't even realise there was something missing...

Do you want a tissue?

The reader sniffs and stifles a small whimper and shakes her head.

We managed to clear the store of customers at which point I did a crazy thing and got down on one knee to propose. It was now or never!

My stomach had turned to lead and doubt had crept into my head and made a cozy nest. What if he said no? In that moment I had visions of what I would have to do if he broke my heart.

Alas, kidnapping, torture and slavery were not on the books, he said YES!

We both agreed we didn’t want to wait a moment longer, and under the pale green light of the full moon we exchanged our vows and hearts. It was simple, just us, but it was all that I desired.

Soon, however, the bonds of our marriage would be tested. We were far from home, out at an unreasonable hour on the night of a full moon... We would need to work together to fend off shuffles of zombies and get home safely without turning into the Corpse Bride and Groom!

Haha yes! Sweet Justin is much better for Ariwan. I like him too, he's very cute. I must admit that I let out something very like an evil cackle and may have rubbed my hands together in glee when you said Goodwin wouldn't co-operate. He is just waiting for the right girl to come along! No, not that awful Jenni Jones-Brown. Good Goodwin!
They are going to have such cute nooboos! It's so good she found someone she was really attracted to.

Lmao Trip! I, er, take it you like Justin then? :P It's my first encounter with this sim what with not playing Twinbrook before, and I have to say so far he's awesome. Highly amusing!!

I'm hoping so too Raia... I'm also hoping any future nooboos will inherit their mother's ears and not those satellite dishes that Justin has installed on the side of his head.  ;D
