Fire insurance exploit

My witch had a wish to cast fire bolt, so I cast it in my front garden on the way out. It was then I realised I was going to have to put the fire out (or call the fire brigade). So I put the fire out myself. Everyone was safe. No items had been damaged.

Then I noticed a message about insurance... $300,000 ! This was my approximate net worth, so instantly my wealth was doubled! My guess is if I now set fire to my garden I would get insurance of $600,000 !

I'm not generally into cheating, but at this stage of my game it makes little difference, and now I can just focus more on socialising and skilling my sims.

Has anyone else had this?

300,000 simoleons?!  Wow, I never got that much! I've received amounts closer to the 200 simoleon range after casting fire blast on my home lot, though it was just on the ground towards the back, not a garden or anywhere near objects. I found it took too much time and caused too much panic to do it very often, though it's good for quick money I suppose. However, for 300K, well that's something else altogether.

That's weird then. I'm not 100% sure, but I may have set fire to the path. I will try again later and post the results.

Well, I did this twice more, once on the path, once on the grass and each time I got 300,000. I'll have a go making a new game and see if I can replicate it.

I registered just now because I saw this post - This happened to me too. I was poor and I noticed that you earned small amounts of money from setting fire to your home lot, so I kept setting fire to my grass. But uh, one time I did it, they gave me 450k simoleons. That's a lot. So, if people would test if this is some kind of glitch, it would help alot.

I've received as much as 70K from insurance due to fires.

I had an inventor blowing up salvaged (and newly purchased buy mode) items in the back corner of the lot.  I placed them within the boundaries of running sprinklers, which prevented fire for the most part.  The game still popped notifications about fire and rewarded me insurance proceeds.

Yes, I had this happen everytime I'd cast fire blast on my home lot! The most I got was $500,000 and the least I got was $300,000!

Has anyone verified if this is a glitch, because I've found that I've never gotten anything more than 400 simoleans.

WOW! That's insane! I wonder if my supernatural-free game can still profit off of this....does it work with inventors and their detonations? My legacy family had to move recently to a new save file, and they could really use the money to re-purchase the venues they lost.


I wonder how the phone call to the Insurance Company would go?

Maybe not completely related to this, but when my sim was in firefighter career, and later moved, after some time his ex-home was on fire as part of his job. He got paid the insurance of 17000$ even though he was no longer living there.

I've never had it happen with detonation, just the fire blast witches have.
