The Clavicula Dynasty: Leading to an End (2/26)
« on: February 14, 2013, 05:58:47 PM »
I'm sad to say that the Claviculas have failed, for a very straightforward reason: Marvin didn't finish his career in time.

Too bad, because Matilde and Garry Jones-Brown were engaged, Rachael completed Ice Personality in time to get Marv's elder sculpture (Marc died right as Marvin was posing for one, so I quickly took the family on a trip to France to train Rachael as a sculptor), and I finally got a dedicated photographer. And Marvin had a new boyfriend in his last days, which was actually really sweet.

And now I ask myself "what now?" Well, send this to the Graveyard as I suit up yet again for another dynasty. One of these days.

Rest in peace, Claviculas. I loved you while it lasted. :(

Let's do this thing for, yeah, I lost count too. Not even counting false starts with this new guy because he loves to make things difficult.

Notes before I begin:

- My founder has an odd graphical bug which you will certainly notice in the screenshots. He was created on the greyscale skintone, and that skintone is glitchy as all heck since it never sticks on my sims and makes them default back to looking pink and fleshy. He eventually got a normal skin color after a few sim-days and I'm annoyed too. :(

- I have my own sets of rules and restrictions on top of the regular rules. Family trait is inappropriate (though it has to be gained at childhood), and original townie spouses (including original foreigners, original homeless sims, aliens, and any descendents of these) whenever possible and through any legal means possible. Not exactly anything new coming from me.

- I'm not going to make things out-of-order and confusing, except for a huge perspective and tense shift that will happen much, much later on. I can't give that much away, but it will be incredibly obvious when it happens, what's happening and why. Until then, I have a more-or-less straightforward, linear, third-person-narrated tale about a dynasty family.

He wasn't a stranger. To Tristan Clavicula, he was his best friend. To little Marvin Clavicula, he was like an uncle. The Claviculas never had visitors except for this man, and he was usually composed to a fault.

But that day, Emmet Grave, the tough and steely ex-military general was in tears.

Marvin just burned a marshmallow by the fire.

“He's gone,” Emmet sobbed into Tristan's shoulder.

“Did he fail?”

“Pretty much."

Marvin just warmed up by the fire, trying not to listen too hard about Emmet's loss.

“I just don't know why he wanted to do a dynasty,” Emmet said, “He was a smart kid, and he knew darn well that B won't stand for a winner. My Journs is locked up in Limbo now because of that darn boss and his darn rules.”

“I'd be torn up if Marvin got conned into it. How about you stay the night?”

As the night went on, Emmet fell asleep in the only tent. Tristan could only sleep alone; just an odd quirk. He stayed up with Marvin by the fire.

“What's a dynasty, dad?” he asked.

“Just a stupid mission that one of the watchers likes.”

“And what's a watcher?”

“I'd rather leave that world in the past. Just don't listen to any smooth-talking men who want you to do a dynasty.” Tristan grumbled a bit, digging into his pocket for a piece of dried fish he could warm up.

Later on, Tristan retired to the local fire station for a nap. Marvin was there too, but he wasn't tired.

Tristan was against the notion of watching television, but Marvin loved to sneak in some time with the telly while his father slept. He knew about his warnings against worldliness, but the constant travel on foot and sleeping in the tent was boring for a growing boy.

He watched a couple kiss at their dream wedding, during some romantic dramedy a touch too mature for him. Men in suits, adults drinking nectar, kids dancing, and a sense of permanence and fun. Why couldn't Marvin have that?

What a cool start for a dynasty. Poor Tristan, I have a feeling poor Marvin is going to get conned into a dynasty! Hehe! I haven't played any sims on the greyscale slider yet; it sucks that it's buggy! Well, good luck on your dynasty this time around! A whole bunch of inappropriate immortals is going to be quite interesting!

What a cool start for a dynasty. Poor Tristan, I have a feeling poor Martin is going to get conned into a dynasty! Hehe! A whole bunch of inappropriate immortals is going to be quite interesting!

Marvin's fate is a bit of a forgone conclusion. I love the inappropriate trait; it isn't nearly as difficult as mean-spirited, and it has fun little bonuses like sponge baths, laughing at birthdays, kisses as a way of saying "hello," and constant pajama-wearing. They're gonna be a fun bunch.

---

After Marvin turned 16, it was time for another move. Tristan was convinced that his work in Appaloosa Plains was fruitless, like every other time.

Tristan always muttered about a curse over Simnation, and out of his good will, he wanted to undo it with his magic. In his own world of strange, far-too-aware misfits, it was still strange to be magically-inclined. Some rumored that his “misuse” of it was a reason he was bound to Simnation in the first place. He thought that he would have the last laugh, but his magic was no use in breaking the curse or even weakening it. He was stuck in a nation of people who were dying out with each breath.

His biggest hope was that Marvin had his same abilities, and it was apparent that he did. Even bigger was his hope that Marvin would follow in his footsteps of good-hearted healing, stoicism, and detachment from the world.

Maybe it was too much time sneaking away to watch movies, but Marvin seemed much different.

He appalled Tristan by shaving part of his head and getting fitted for glasses. He even attracted the attention of Union Cove's teenagers and made plenty of friends. The roots were starting to grow.

When it came time for Marvin to turn 18, a local girl named Bubblegum offered to throw him a birthday party at one of the coolest venues in Union Cove when her mother was gone for a concert.

He smiled when he stood in front of his friends, dressed in some new clothes he got as presents. Of course, deep inside he knew that his father would be enraged to see such an act.

“A party?!” Tristan was seething. How could he have drifted so far away?

“I don't always have a birthday,” said Marvin.

“I can't believe that you'd go down this path.”

“Maybe I don't want to be a traveling warlock. Maybe I just want to live in a quiet town and make friends.”

“It's not that. It's just...there are so many consequences attached to this.”

Marvin went to sleep that night at the fire station, disregarding it all. He wanted to dream about renting a house with some buddies, setting up a garden, maybe putting some of his magic to good use and becoming a fortune teller.

Instead, he didn't dream.

At first, he was plunged into blackness, but behind his back was a desk and a man in a top-hat.

“Clavicula. I thought that they died out with Tristan.” His voice was deep, smooth, and disgusting.

“That's my dad. He's still alive, ya know.”

“I guess he is! I see that you're a very worldly gentleman.”

“I hear that all the time,” Marvin didn't need another person telling him that.

“I don't think a man should become too worldly so that he loses all ambition in a sea of nectar and hedonism,” the man said, “There's nothing wrong with settling down, but isn't it awful to settle down without a purpose?”

As hard as Marvin thought, he didn't have a purpose. Not then.

The man continued. “I've been known to send men on missions in the mortal world. Why don't you go to a little swamp town and raise a family? You could even live forever.”

Immortality was definitely a nice line in Marvin's worldly vocabulary. “Tell me more, old man.”

“Simply put, there's a recipe that will grant any man the power to live forever, eaten on a regular basis, of course. I like to withhold its properties until some things are done. Nothing warms my heart more than to see a man at the top of his career, the best in his field with a skill, and surrounded by a museum full of his portraits and a bunch of best friends. It's even better done eight times over!”

“It seems a bit difficult,” said Marvin, “But heck, I might be up for it.”

“In fact, I'd even say it will lift that curse your father is so intent on lifting himself.”

“Sold.”

“Excellent. Pick up the MultiTab at my secretary's desk on the way out; it's my gift to you. I have everything you need in there. Twinbrook is past the green arch of light, for June 21st, 2057.”

“Hey, thanks for this...Lord Basalta-Marx, right?” That's what the business cards said, anyways.

“Please, call me B,” he said with a grin. Marvin left to follow the light towards the green arch.

“I reel those suckers in every time,” B muttered as soon as Marvin was out of earshot. He got out of his seat for a glass of celebratory nectar.

A very interesting start!
I was wondering why you called your dynasty the Claviculas, are you medical interested?
Marvin is a really original looking sim. I love that and the glasses really suit him. (I'm having a soft spot for men with glasses  ;D )
Too sad he didn't kept his grey colour.
I see forward to his life in Twinbrook, there are so many...interesting women to meet. Good luck!

I originally chose Clavicula because it's Latin for key and it was originally going to hold some significance story-wise. Now it's just a last name that sounds nice for my immortals.

He is quite an interesting-looking sim, and I adore men with glasses. I'm starting to love Marvin as a normal pale guy too, though the greyness made him far more striking. Now I have to rely on the interesting genes of Twinbrook to make my sims striking, but heck, that's what I'd want anyways. ;D

This is a fascinating beginning! I like how you tied in past dynasty attempts and made the person advocating a dynasty out to be a villain. Very fascinating. I look forward to more.

Yeah, I really can't detach myself from my Graves or whatever background I tried to make for them (most of it is for my own personal justification and not meant for public consumption). The villain was originally supposed to be a part of Journeyman's story, but I never got that far. I'm really glad to get to use him at last.

It warms my heart to see my dynasties make you happy.

Now that you mention it, how amusing. :D

Marvin sneezed. The pollen of Twinbrook was new to him when he first arrived. He also had hardly a clue about where to start, even with the info from B. He knew about the requirements, but who in town could give him a hand?

There weren't any lights on in the mansion right across from him, but a few people stood outside of one a little further down the road.

He stood behind a man named Lincoln Baker, noting the expensive car in their driveway.

Lincoln was a nice enough guy, even a great guy. He enjoyed a good joke, making friends, and having a good time between lab hours and work in his mum's garden. Although he recoiled a bit when Marvin mentioned moving in, Marv was sure that he could work some magic on Lincoln.

That VFN Kompensator right in back of him was on his mind.

“Hey, you wanna go downtown? I'm new and I want to see some things,” Marvin said.

“That's always fun.”

Shaded by willows, Marvin worked that magic to get Lincoln to shack up with him. Words about how he could finally leave his mum and annoying little brother, and how they could have the perfect garden together won him over.

Marvin picked a wildflower. Life was working out and it was hardly noon.

Lincoln fished beyond nightfall. He was a little apprehensive about where he needed to go in life. Maybe lab work was getting stale, and maybe there were other things he could do under the hand of this strange new man. But in back of him, there was a cozy home to return to (at the expense of his car), and that was the foremost thought. He barely missed the Baker mansion now.

Maybe a few days later, Marvin cleaned up in his usual way. He needed a job, and he always dreamed of being a fortune teller, as a way to augment his wizardry. The interview would go better if he wasn't sweaty from harvesting wild peppers.

He was on the right path. All he needed were some elixirs to make everything better.

The store was closed, but strangely not unlocked. He met an eccentric-looking woman who used to tend to the cash register. She said that when a spot opened up in fortune-telling, she just had to grab it instead.

“I'm glad someone shares my dream. What's the name?” asked Marvin.

“Charmaine Manne. You?”

“Marvin Clavicula. Hey, is there something on my face? Lean in a bit.”

He welcomed Charmaine in his usual way. She seemed too nice to be deprived of Marvin's smooches, after all.

“Hmm, I guess you're my new favorite co-worker,” Charmaine said, still a little spellbound.

You have a touch... a way of fleshing your characters out, with their vibrant personalities.

I had mixed feelings about my writing for the Graves, but I'm glad you liked it. :D

Marvin has an interesting personality to flesh out. I'm way ahead in my game, and let's just that say that the live-ins produced a bunch of kids with interesting personalities that I'll have some fun fleshing out. And Goodwin Goode has an evil son. Lawl.

WARNING: This chapter is mostly scenes taken outside at night. Marvin's a bit of a night owl due to his job schedule, and I never have enough time during the day to track down dynasty artists.

Marvin learned about a new spell that could turn his bad apple into something a little more valuable, or a lot more. While Lincoln provided a lot of money, the house was expensive to build. Maybe his apple would become a little more valuable.

Or not. He needed a new plan for money, but he needed a painter first.

He knew of experienced painters in the town, and a lot of them were decently nice people too, but none of them mattered to him. Marvin instead went over to the grocery store to see who he could reel in.

In spite of his charisma, Marvin was not the master of first impressions.

However, Justin Kayes easily forgave him and particularly amused by Marvin's constant excitement over science and Justin's own intelligence. He was even easier to befriend than Lincoln, and almost instantly agreed to get away from his roommates for a life of painting and friendship with different roommates.

Justin quietly painted. There was very little to say about his work, other than his surprising aptitude for the art. He only painted, and Marvin had other goals for his museum on his mind.

On a warm Twinbrook night, Marvin invited one of his co-workers out to the outskirts of Twinbrook.

“You might be a brilliant man, but I still don't get why we're here dressed in our best,” Harwood said from a distance.

“It felt nice. You sculpt, right?”

The answer was obvious. “I mean, I was kind of famous for it.”

“Well I have this strange project back home, and I wondered if you could be a part of it!”

Harwood looked on, rather stone-faced and a touch bored that another odd young man was talking to him about needing a sculptor. He felt that this was ground he already tread.

“Fine Marvin. It's Puddlewick Drive, right?”

A thud was heard instead of a coherent response.

Perhaps that was a yes.

“How the heck is ice so cold?”

Marvin decided to shake his tailfeather to a new song before going off to work. Life was good.

Lincoln agreed.

It wasn't too long before Lincoln had his own little clone to play with.

Some time before, he met his neighbor. She lived directly across from his old place and directly to the right of the Clavicula house. Julienne also worked for Lincoln's mother in Twinbrook's kitchens, and next to Lincoln (he realized that science wasn't quite his thing).

“Ya know, you're just my type. I love flirty cooks,” she said.

“Good thing, babe.”

It was a wild night with wild consequences, and while Lincoln knew that his relationship with Julienne was serious whether he liked it or not, it was bothering him. Why couldn't they just be friends after a bit of romance? Oh right, the nooboo. At least she cut her hair; he liked her short hair much better.

He fished to get his mind off it. An old man at the top of the hill was kind enough to let him fish in his personal pond. Lincoln left with a pocket full of angelfish.

Fishing at the cemetery was a little harder. He got the fish that Marvin wanted, and six of them at that, but Lincoln had his own ties to the cemetery that were still tough on him.

Bob-Andy Baker was at rest that night, thankfully.

The last deathfish of the night leaped from the water. It was a great night for Lincoln.

Meanwhile, Charmaine presented Marvin with a deal-breaker.

He just turned the lights on and threw a special elixir at her. She felt her humanity and dignity return to her, all because of her wonderful boyfriend. It confused her to the point of leaving abruptly. Marvin could ask her an important question the next night anyways.

In the mean time, Harwood had a slight smile while Justin worked stoically behind him. Maybe it was the elixir to make fulfilling his wishes more fulfilling. Or maybe it was the feeling that the Claviculas had more money to spend. After all, Marvin did a fine job convincing him that money was his real goal in life.

He was right about having more money to spend. “Do you feel happy enough to buy me two motive mobiles?” Marvin asked Harwood. Not that he really liked the gas guzzlers, but they were deemed okay in Marvin's book.

And later that day, the Claviculas had two motive mobiles.

Now it was time for Marvin to finally finish wooing Charmaine.

“Honey!” Charmaine exclaimed as Marvin presented her with red roses to match her dress.

“What else would a gardener do?”

“I could just spend my entire life with a guy as nice as you.”

“Good then,” Marvin said, reaching into his pocket.

“Let's make it happen.”

He hung his head in blissful disbelief; he and Charmaine didn't much time outside of work to interact, and she still said yes. It felt great to land himself a bride.

She was very fine with the idea of Marvin having a wild bachelor party. It was one of his dreams, after all.

His visions of “wild” weren't realized. Tim's ghost story wasn't even that scary.

In fact, he was upstaged by Justin's exclamations. “I forgot, guys, it's my birthday!”

The best Marvin could do was soak his troubles away in the nude with Nick Knack. “How is marriage?” he asked Nick.

“I think it's a wonderful thing, except for the arguments. Pattina's too good at winning them.”

"Garry, I'm just so happy that I'm getting married," Marvin said to the little boy as his twin sister tried to ignore them.

"Girls are so icky."

Justin completed his 30th painting the next day. Good thing too; he felt that something strange started to brew in his life.

Oh no! Goodwin's son is Evil! How could the Trait Watcher do this to him!  It will break his poor heart  :'(

Julienne and Lincoln is on eI haven't seen before. I like it. Charmaine is new too. You do like to go off the beaten path. I thought Julienne looked pretty with long hair. Too bad Marvin won't just stay grey. I look forward to seeing all the children the roommates will surely produce! And I really like the Inappropriate Founder. Aside from having one myself, I think they just add to a story.

Julienne and Lincoln are neighbors, share the flirty trait, and Lincoln ended up joining the culinary career with her because a little voice wants a nice fridge for the dynasty. It was convenient, and Julienne deserves a nice guy; in spite of the commitment issues, Lincoln is always sweet and faithful to her.

Charmaine has a lot of things in common with Marvin, right down to names that kind of rhyme. She was really hard to track down during test runs, so I almost gave up on Charmaine as a spousal candidate until she and Marvin crossed paths at random. I also kind of missed her from the Graves, since she would have been a grandmother to a future generation had I continued. It's nice to have Charmaine around; she's just so sweet and friendly.

Oh, and Goodwin's son isn't the only evil one. Generation two's peers are a fascinating bunch in that a lot of them turned out evil!
